From Your Plank South Leadership Team
Plank South Families,
We hope you are enjoying the weekend and for those of you so inclined, March Madness!! One quick reminder for this coming week is that Friday, March 31st is a half-day, so buses will leave school at 11:20am. We are trying something new this week to help at pick-up with families letting us know earlier in the week about any alternate plans for busing on Friday. Be looking for a flyer with details!
For those of you with students in grades 3-5, this week is also the first week of NYS testing (ELA Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday this week, Math in May). Though we don't put too much emphasis on state testing, as it is just one of many measures we use to see how our kids and school are doing, your child will likely feel more confident and relaxed if they get a good night sleep and have a good breakfast.
Currently, it looks like around 80% of students in grades 3-5 will take the NYS exams, but if you chose to not have your child participate in NYS exams we will have your child in the cafeteria during testing. Most students read quietly, but students can also draw, color, or do another quiet independent activity they choose to do. Students won't be socializing or playing games, but our goal is for the environment to be pleasant and for kids to feel supported. We will build in a stretch breaks every 20-30 minutes so that students will be moving around a bit and students will be able to use the bathroom as needed. Students will go back to their classroom after students in class finish testing which we anticipate being around 10:30am, but since the tests are not timed, it is impossible to know for sure. It could be earlier or later depending on the test, the grade level, and the class.
Revised end-of-year schedule
Friday, March 31st: Was a full day, now a half day. Buses leave school at 11:20am.

Friday, April 7th: Was no school, now a full day. C Day, 3rd Grade Library.

Have a great week!
