Term 2, Week 2

Principals Address

I hope that everyone enjoyed their school holidays. It was great to see the smiling faces and excitement of our students returning.

The relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions has led to a more positive environment. Teachers will be able to organise camps and excursions. Assemblies and school events will now be able to run as normal. Teaching and learning is much less restrictive without the masks.

Please remember to still contact the school if your child is unwell. The school still has RATs if parents need to test their children before sending them to school.

We are looking forward to many sporting events this term. National Walk to School Day 20th May, there will be two meeting points around town and students and staff will all walk to school. Students will start training for cross country in daily fitness sessions. Wiluna will be visiting for a social AFL and basketball match later in the term. To keep everyone fit and healthy, students will be skipping for Jump Rope for Heart. This event will be a fundraiser for the National Heart Foundation.

Assemblies – This term assemblies will be Thursday afternoon 26th May – Year Four and 23rd June – Year Two.

NAPLAN - Our Year 3, 5,7 and 9 students will be assessed over the next two weeks on the NAPLAN - Numeracy and Literacy Assessment this will assess student achievement in literacy and numeracy. NAPLAN testing will take place:

Tuesday 10th May - Writing

Wednesday 11th May – Reading

Thursday 12th May – Conventions of Language

Friday 13th May – Numeracy

All tests are online except for Year Three Writing, the students taking this test will be writing into paper booklets. Students who are away on these days will be able to have catch up sessions until Friday 13th May.

Parent Information regarding this test was sent out earlier this year.

All students have had a practice at school so that they know how to access the test online. We wish the students sitting these assessments the best of luck.

Thank you to our wonderful P&C and the Dad’s who volunteered to run the Mother’s Day stall on Tuesday. It was lovely to see the students preparing to spoil their Mums on their special day. I would like to personally wish all the mothers who love and care for their children everyday a very special day on Sunday.

Year 5/6 ANZAC Assembly

Last term, Mr Reynolds Year 5/6 class held an ANZAC Assembly digitally but due to the file size we were unable to distribute it. We've since found a platform to host all the video files, so we hope you enjoy watching their wonderful performance.

Absentee Form on School Stream

Did you know that you can advise the school on sick leave days and future absences through the School Stream app?

Open the School Stream app on your mobile device. Whilst on the Leinster Community School home screen, select forms from the drop down option and scroll down to the bottom and click on the Absentee Form.

Walk Safely to School Day 2022.

Australia’s National Walk Safely to School Day will be returning on Friday, May 20, 2022.

National Walk Safely to School Day is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport, and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long-term wellbeing of our children. Apart from the physical benefits, regular walking also has a favourable impact on their mental health and academic performance.

Leinster Community School would like to encourage all students and their families to walk safely to and from school on this date, with safety talks being delivered to each classroom prior to the event.

Lost Property

Are you missing a school hat? A jumper? Or something else? We have several items of lost property in the front office with no names on so please pop into the office to take a look and see if it belongs to you. Coming into the colder months school jumpers often get misplaced so this is a friendly reminder to ensure all school uniforms are labelled correctly for a quick return. Thank you.

School Hat Requirement

Please be aware that the school has a no hat no play policy. We've had quite a few students coming into the school office to see if we have any school hats that they can borrow and unfortunately we don't. If you would like to order a new school hat for your child please order through the P&C or come into the front office to complete a uniform order form. School hats are $15 each. Thank you.

School Contributions

In the last week of Term 1, school contribution notices were sent home with students who have outstanding balances. If you would like to make a payment you can come into the front office and pay by EFTPOS or alternatively you can pay directly into the below bank account. If you would like to organise a payment plan we can also assist you with this.

Branch Number: 066 040

Account Number: 1990 1770

An update from the P&C

What a great day at the Mother's Day stall earlier this week. It was a huge success. Very hectic for all the helpers but lots of fun watching the children picking out presents.

Happy Mother's Day for Sunday!!! We really hope you like your gifts.

A huge thank you to Dylan Butters, Mat Read, Jodi O'Connor and the Year 5/6 school leaders for helping the children choose gifts and count their money. A special mention to say thank you to Felicity Harvey also for donating some beautiful handmade keyrings for inclusion in the stall. We couldn't have done it without you!

We got a little busy and forgot to take photos…sorry!!!

We still have some stock left so keep an eye out at the LSRA markets on Saturday or PM the P&C Facebook page if your child missed out yesterday.

Colour Run and Markets This Weekend
