Picking Up STEAM at GSK
GlaxoSmithKline Welcomes PGHS Students
Our Visit to GSK - Josiah Thieme (10th Grade)
Reflections from GSK - Mrs. Stephanie Van Horn (GSK Senior Investigator Scientist and PGHS Parent)
It was a pleasure to host Pottsgrove High School in today’s GSK Visiting Students Day. Students learned about what goes into making a new medicine as they toured a variety of different demonstrations lead by GSK volunteers. The students toured our Dermatology Unit, Platform Technologies & Science, Target Sciences, and Protein Structural & Biophysical Sciences labs. Thirteen GSK scientists volunteered their time and discussed their area of research as well as their educational background, experience, and career path. Students experienced our brand new SMART Lab & Office space in our newly renovated US R&D Hub at Upper Providence. We hope that the students came away with more insight, inspiration & passion for science!
I have been an active member of GSK’s Science in Schools for many years. It is very exciting for me to host Pottsgrove High School for a second time. The kids were attentive, respectful and very engaged. I am a Pottsgrove Proud parent and am passionate about giving back to our school district where & when I can."

Visiting Students Day
The Visiting Students Program is designed to inspire high school students toward pursuing science and technology careers through a one-day visit to one of our Research and Development sites. They will meet the scientists and professionals who discover and develop medicines for patients in need and learn about the many possible career paths in the industry. The program is sponsored by GSK Research & Development (R&D) and entirely organized and run by volunteers excited about promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education to students, educators and parents. The students take a tour and visit up to three different areas of the facility covering the disciplines of Chemistry, Biology, and/or Laboratory Animal Sciences. The program is held throughout the school year and hosts large and small groups of students.
