Brought to you by the Shepard Elementary PTA
From our Principal
Dear Shepard Families,
As many of you know, our fifth grade students leave for Collin County Adventure Camp on Monday.
For the parents who have not yet had the opportunity to experience “Camp” through their child’s eyes, I’d like to share a little bit of my experience with you. Fifth Grade Camp is a two night, three day experience for fifth grade students in Plano ISD. Students attend the camp chaperoned by a school administrator (Mr. Braden or me!), their teachers, and one parent volunteer for every six students.
The kids and parents stay in cabins and eat their meals together in a dining hall. During the day, the students hike 1 of 3 trails that have learning components tied to the 5th grade Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, the state’s requirements for curriculum. Camp offers hands on experiences that can’t be replicated in the classroom. Not only does it make for an academic experience that the kids will always remember, it is also a social opportunity that helps the kids to see each other in a different light and connect to each other in ways they can’t in the classroom. There are multiple opportunities to support each other and work as a team, such as canoeing and water lab as well as archery and challenge courses.
We are looking forward to this year’s trip to the Collin County Adventure Camp. Be on the lookout for some pictures on Facebook next week!
Sincerely,
Kristin

Absence & Tardy Information
Running late…
Please remember school starts at 7:45 am. Once the school doors are closed your child needs to come through the office for a Late Pass, and a tardy will be recorded.
If your child is going to be absent or arriving after 9 a.m…
Please remember to call the school’s Child Safe Line at (469) 752-3100. Dial #1 for English, or #2 for Spanish, and then dial #3 to report your child’s absence.
Please leave your child’s name, grade, teacher’s name, the reason they are absent and when they might be returning to school.
If we do not receive a call reporting the student absent by 9:00 am we are required to call to confirm their absence with a parent/guardian.
If your child has been absent…
Please send a doctor’s note or a note from a parent with the following information:
- Your student’s first and last name
- the date(s) they were absent
- the reason for their absence
- a parent’s hand written signature
All notes must be received by the school within 3 days of your child’s return to school to be considered for excused absence.
Absences due to illness for longer than five days will require a physician’s note to excuse.
Thank you!
