Good Afternoon, Cougar Nation!
We've had a great start back to school and there is excitement building for next week that includes homecoming festivities and the classic ConVal games. Next Monday begins our collection for NH Tackles Hunger. Please read more details below and consider sending in a non-expired, non-perishable, canned food item. We hope to continue our five year run as the top collector for the NH Tackles Hunger campaign. Our biggest collection year was 2019, when we collected 4,661 pounds of food and $2,566.25 in cash & gift cards district wide.
Please see the table of contents below that includes information on school picture day next week, school counseling updates, and several other events/news you may want to be aware of.

CAROL YOUNG'S BIOLOGY CLASS
In Carol Young's class, the students are reviewing the Characteristics of Life that all living things possess. The students are studying the skills of creating Claim, Evidence and Reasoning paragraphs. Students picked an organism of their own choice and applied the Characteristics of Life to writing the Claim, Evidence and Reasoning to determine if it was a living thing.
SPANISH CLASS ACTIVITIES!
In Velka Pacheco-McMahon's Spanish classes, the students are working on the vocabulary in group activities. Students were writing Spanish words they remembered. The categories were one syllable, to 5 or more.
Mr. Putnam's 3-D Studio Art Class
Students in Mr. Putnam's second block 3D Studio Art Class were making sketchbooks today.
Sketchbook Practice is a key aspect of all the art classes at ConVal High School.
They are used as a place to capture wonders & curiosities, map out and plan future projects and/or a place to collect, record and gather bits of information images or text the students may want to hold onto.

Student Council 2022-2023
Students attended their first class meetings this week for the 2022-2023 school year. During the meetings, members of the Student Council spoke about the differences between serving on student council or grade-level student government. There are open positions for every grade-level for both organizations, and students were able to pick-up an election petition form at the end of the meetings.
For any students interested in running for an open position, please pay close attention to the following deadlines:
Friday, 9/16 - Completed paper election petitions with 25 signatures are due to the front office by the end of the school day (2:20 pm).
Monday, 9/19 - Prepared one-minute speech is due by the end of the day via Google Form submission for review and approval.
Wednesday, 9/21- Live speeches will be delivered during TASC to grade levels. The school will follow a modified schedule, so TASC will happen at the beginning of the day.
Thursday, 9/22 - Voting, via Google Form, will open at the beginning of the day and close at the end of the school day.
Friday, 9/23 - Election results will be announced.
If any interested students have questions about the elections process or would like support in the process, please reach out to Ms. Cooper, bcooper@conval.edu.

Hello Cougar Nation,
Please see the flyer attached to share the NH Tackles Hunger Campaign. This is a program that we are really proud of at ConVal and we hope that we can continue to expand our outreach and success. Food insecurity impacts many of of friends and neighbors, and the current economic climate is not helping the issue. In New Hampshire, 5.7 percent of households were estimated to be food insecure during the 2018-2020 period (Source: nhfpi.org). This represents about 31,000 households where food insecurity was reported at least once in the past year. ConVal and the greater community is extremely caring and generous as we have seen many times over the years, and this food drive really does make a difference in our community.
This food drive will run Sept 13th -23rd, with collections happening at homecoming games and Friday Night Football on Sept 16th. In 2019, we collected a total: 4,661 pounds of food $2,566.25 in cash & gift cards in the 9 schools! Let's try to beat that record. That year, we had students really take an interest as a friendly competition was introduced. We have been the top collection school in the state 5 years running, with 2019 being our biggest year, despite Covid 19!
This year we added a online donation option as cashless payment has become the preferred method for many. All proceeds will go directly to the Peterborough Food Pantry. WMUR has an incentive to add $500 to the donation to the top 3 collection schools!
Here is the link to share and the QR code: it is also embedded in the flyer. (PDF and JPEG)
