August Update and Happenings from Ms. Poage
Welcome Back, ROOS!
Meet the Teacher
Hey parents and guardians!
I just want to introduce myself and share a little about me. My name is Leigh Poage. I graduated from the University of North Texas (Go MEAN GREEN) with my BFA in visual art studies and a minor in education.
I have been in the education field for 12 years. I have spent the last 7 of those years teaching elementary (K-6) art in Arlington ISD. I have worn many hats around the schools from reading intervention, special education assistant to substituting. My first year of teaching was in southern China at a small university. I taught English Monday- Thursday and went into the city on Fridays to teach middle school.
This is my first year at Hall and am so excited for this new journey. I absolutely love the culture and the community of Weatherford. I have already started a small collecting of Roo gear that I will continue to grow.
I hope you and your students have a fantastic 2023-24 school year.
First Weeks in Art
We have spent several days taking a deep dive into different types of lines artists use. We also implemented some of these types of lines into our own artwork and practice. Continuous contour and blind contour were the types of line exercises we used to create our drawings. In the next week we will take some of our best blind contours and create a final project. We'll then take some Zentangle patterns that we covered and put those designs into the interior of our blind contours.
*** Please make sure your student has a sketchbook. I know they were tough to find that first week of school. If you're still looking check Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Wal-Mart or even Amazon. If you're unable to get one, please let me know and I can see what I can do for your student. We want everyone to be successful and have the right tools to get their work done.
