Principal's Message

Harvey Green Families,

As Spring has begun, I have noticed that allergies are really picking up. If your child needs any medication at school please be sure to follow the correct procedures. Medication information can be found below. Please do not send your child to school with medication, this is for the safety of all students.

I would like to congratulate Mrs. Georgette Gibson for being Harvey Green's Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Gibson has served in many roles at Green, from substitute teacher, to Librarian, to classroom teacher. We are lucky to have Mrs. Gibson on our staff.

Next week, we will have our Spring Break. I hope that your family can enjoy some time together and the much needed break.

When we return from break our third through fifth grade students will begin CAASPP testing. Please try to schedule all student appointments outside of school hours, as students cannot enter or exit the classroom during testing times. Also remember to make sure your child is getting plenty of rest prior to testing.

Open House is on Tuesday, April 25th from 6-7pm. I hope your family will be able to attend to see all of the awesome things that have been happening in your child's classroom.

As always, please feel free to call the office or reach out to us by email if we can assist your family in any way.

Sincerely,

Ms. Johnson

Open House

Please join us for our annual Open House on April 25th. Classroom visits will take place from 6-7pm. Open House is a time for your student to show off their work and things in the classroom. This is not a time to conference with the teacher. Teachers will also be there to help celebrate the students and enjoy watching the children show their parents around the room. All students must be accompanied by an adult at all times. We hope to see you there!

2023-24 Classroom Placement Requests

The placement of students in each class for next year is decided by the administration and the faculty and is a complex process with many variables that must be considered. We will not accept requests for specific teachers. If you would like to give input regarding your child’s educational needs please submit a brief note to the front office. Parents must understand that only the educational needs of the student will be considered. Notes must be submitted by May 1, 2023. Any requests received after this date will not be considered for the 2023/2024 school year.

In regards to Transitional Kindergarten requests for AM or PM sessions we will only accept requests that have to do with severe hardships. We will not take any requests that are related to work or child care as that is a common challenge for most families. If you do have a rare severe hardship or emergency you may submit a brief note to the front office by May 1, 2023. If you are one of the few families that prefer PM please be sure to submit a note to the office so we can free up as many AM spots as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Counselor Corner

Hello Harvey Green Families,

This month, we are talking about Careers! It is one of my favorite topics to talk about with students because it is amazing to hear some of the things they want to pursue and the excitement in their eyes. In their classroom, we will be exploring different careers and their passions/interests. Our Career Day will be on Thursday, April 27th in the afternoon. If you are interested in doing a short presentation to a class or two, please sign up here. Our students would love to learn from you!

April is Autism Acceptance month and we will host a lunch time activity so students can be on the lookout for some lunch fun! Here are some inspiring videos of experiences around autism and videos that you and your children can watch together to learn more.

The next elementary counselors workshop is coming up on Thursday, April 20th at 12pm. Check out this flyer for more information and to register! As always, feel free to reach me at dng@fusdk12.net if you have any questions or concerns.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Ng

Covid Test Kits and Covid Testing

Harvey Green will no longer have Covid testing at the school site on Tuesdays. It is still available daily at the district office. At home Covid test kits will not be given out before Spring Break. If you need any test kits, we have them in the school office. Please stop by to pick them up.

Yearbooks on Sale

If you would like to preorder a yearbook, payment can be dropped off to the school office. Cost is $25. Please make checks payable to FUSD - Green. There is a limited supply.

New TK and K Enrollment

Is your child almost TK/Kindergarten age? 2023-2024 enrollment begins on December 23rd. If your child is born between 09/02/18 to 4/02/19, they are eligible for TK! If they are born between 09/02/17 to 09/01/18 they are eligible for Kindergarten. Please check here for information on how to sign up your child for TK or Kindergarten.

Free Breakfast and Lunch Daily

ALL Green students will have access to free meals here at school. Students will be asked every morning if they are going to get a school lunch so we can order the correct amount

of food. Please communicate with your child if you would like them to get a school meal and if they are choosing the meat or vegetarian option.

TK/K students are welcome to come through the lunch line and grab a lunch but there is no lunch supervision for TK/K students they will need to eat with a parent/guardian off campus.

Breakfast will be served daily in the MUR for any interested students at 8:05am. Parents/guardians are not allowed in the MUR. Students will be supervised while they eat and will be either released to recess when finished or if they are TK/K they will be walked to class.

Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE)- 4th & 5th Grade

The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.

Lesson Dates:

4th Grade: May 16th- May 19th

5th Grade: March 27th- April 4th

State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. Students opting out of lessons will be provided an alternate curriculum under the supervision of a credentialed teacher. If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher.
