OASC Newsletter
Ohio Association of Student Councils, December 2018
The Ohio Association of Student Councils is an organization dedicated to the teaching of leadership skills, organizational skills, and people skills valuable to the members and officers of all student organizations!
Looking back.... Fall Retreat!
OASC welcomed 124 delegates to Camp Willson on November 3rd & 4th! Senior High's theme was "Creativity and Leadership". Students worked together with councils to develop their own creativity & learned how to better utilize the creativity of those around them. Senior High created skits to share how to overcome roadblocks to creativity, and wrote some "Harold & the Purple Crayon" notes to each other to inspire others when they are feeling stuck.
Middle level students learned about creating a SPARK: Spirit, Perserverance, Attitude, Responsibility and Knowledge to bring about positive change! Student participants participated in a variety of activities and had to work as a team to keep their raw egg "safe" for the entire weekend! Even though not all eggs lasted, the memories we made at retreat sure will!
Exciting news from OASC!
The Executive Board has spent the better part of 2 years brainstorming & analyzing data (collected from students, OASC alumni, parents, teachers and prospective students) in order to evaluate the following:
- the current brand of the organization
- the current calendar of OASC events
- the impactfulness of events
- the obstacles that keep (or potentially keep) students from participating
As a result of this data & feedback, the Executive Board found it necessary to officially propose a name and branding change in the organization in order to:
- be more inclusive of all student leaders
- meet the needs of our current schools & membership
- further the reach of our quality leadership development programming
The new proposed name of the organization (which will appear on the ballot at State Conference) is:
The Ohio Association of Student Leaders
Serve. Connect. Inspire.
Check out the video from your State Representatives below with more details! We look forward to your participation at State Conference in this historic vote!

As shared at State Conference, in order to bring sufficient revenue to OASC and also expose as many student leaders to our programming, we need attendance at our year round events to increase! While the feedback on our events continues to reflect the high quality programming and experiences we have always offered our students and member schools, attendance continues to steadily decline. In order to evaluate how to expose more students to our programming, continue to recruit new schools and follow the organizations mission statement of "serving all leaders" we would like some feedback on our organizations name, brand, and current calendar of events. Please take 5 minutes to give OASC your thoughts and feedback, as this information will be used to drive intentional changes to make our organization as inclusive and impactful as possible!
