A Peek Inside the Week - Jan. 20th, 2023
Student Leadership Conference
Select students in grades 4 through 6 from schools across the state participated in this event which is built around fostering 21st century leadership skills. CAS describes the conference as “unique, interactive learning activities that are not commonly part of an already jam packed elementary curriculum. Yet, the featured topics do a nice job supporting the good work taking place in our elementary schools.”
Over the course of the day, through keynote and closing presentations, along with 3 "breakout" workshops, students had the opportunity to connect with student leaders from 25 other schools across the state. They learned how to be an "upstander" not a "bystander", fine tuned their collaboration and cooperation abilities, and enhanced their leadership mindset and skills.
From competitive games to art to solving problems to large and small group activities, students couldn’t wait to see what each presenter had in store for them and we can't wait to see how they apply their new found skills at Eli Terry! Check out a few of the photos and the "nuggets" of wisdom students left the day with!
**Spirit Week Next Week**
Next week we'll be joining thousands of other schools and millions of other students nationwide by participating in The Great Kindness Challenge.
At Eli Terry we'd like to make the week a spirit week with the thread of kindness woven throughout each day. Below you'll find a flyer outlining the theme for each day.
We also encourage you to check out this awesome (and heartwarming!) kick-off video and the link above for more information.

Meal Train for the Goetz Family
As our school community knows, the Goetz family experienced a devastating house fire the week before Christmas. Our Eli Terry and South Windsor community rallied to help them with monetary donations, clothing, Christmas gifts, gift cards, etc. They are lucky to be settling into a rental home but still need our love and support! One of the ways we'd like to continue to help them is by providing some home-cooked meals.
Clicking the link below, will take you to a "Meal Train" page where you can sign-up to provide a home-cooked meal. Since both boys are car riders, meals can be brought to school and they'll be taken home with the family at pick-up!
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. Thank you for continuing to wrap this family in love!
We need your shoutouts!
We are all caught up in sharing the shoutouts that have been submitted so far. In order to continue spreading joy and gratitude, we encourage your family to submit an appreciation for someone in our school community!
Share your gratitude for ANY member of our Eli Terry community using this quick Google Form! Your shoutout will be shared on our morning announcements, through a "shout out" card, and/or on the PTO Facebook page!

Eli Terry is so excited, for the first time ever, to be participating in Global Play Day on Wednesday, February 1st!!
The goal of Global Play Day is to raise awareness about the importance of unstructured play. As research shows, play is an important part of the classroom and “contributes to developing the whole child. Through play, a child's creativity, physical and cognitive abilities are refined and strengthened.”
All of our students are invited to bring in items to play with on Wednesday. No trading cards please. In addition:
1. The toy or game needs to be school appropriate.
2. It should not be an electronic gadget.
3. Students will need to share what they bring in with others in their class.
4. If it is a very special or expensive toy, it should probably stay at home.
5. Students should be able to play with the item without adult help.
It is our hope that this one day of play will inspire families to plan for more unstructured play time during non-school hours.
For more information about Global Play Day please visit their website.
It promises to be a fun day of play!
