August 2021

Welcome Back!

Dear MRH Families,

I hope the summer break has been an enjoyable one for you and your child(ren). The start of the new school year, on August 24, will be here soon!

All MRH staff will return August 18 to prepare for the start of school. Staff will be engaged in professional learning, collaborative conversations, and planning meaningful lessons to welcome students back into the classroom. Your child's special education Case Manager will contact you by email or phone prior to the start of school to introduce herself/himself and to answer any questions you may have. Of course, you are always welcome to contact me with questions, concerns, or comments.

Additionally, we will be hosting a parent Zoom meeting to share information and to answer questions you may have regarding special education services during the upcoming school year. The details are as follows:

SSD Back to School Webinar

MRH Parent Advisory Council

The MRH Parent Advisory Council had its first meeting last spring. This group offers an opportunity to connect with other parents of students with disabilities and to learn about topics of interest. The group is actively planning for this school year. Please contact MRH parent Mrs. Kim Gifford if you are interested in participating.

SSD Parent Leadership Institute- Fall 2021

SSD’s Parent Education and Diversity Awareness Program is seeking applicants interested in participating in the 2021 SSD Parent Leadership Institute.

Parent Leadership Institute participants have the opportunity to:

  • Build understanding of future planning and problem-solving utilizing the Charting the LifeCourse tools.
  • Learn to effectively participate in their child’s education and improve the educational climate for all children.
  • Learn how to positively interact and collaborate with other parents and school personnel.
  • Discover new resources and network with other parents.

This program, which is offered at no cost to participants, is designed for parents and family members who are the educational decision makers for a child with a disability.

The three sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, on Sept. 22, Sept. 29, and Oct. 6, 2021, at SSD Central Office, 12110 Clayton Road, 63131.

In-person sessions are currently planned, and further information will be provided to participants if there are any changes prior to the first session. If in-person attendance is possible, dinner will be provided with all sessions.
