Millbrook MYP
September 1, 2020
Dear MYP Families,
Greetings to a new school year! It is my pleasure to serve all of the 9th and 10th Grade students here at Millbrook High School, as your MYP Coordinator. I would like to welcome all Class of 2024 Wildcats to our school and to welcome back the Class of 2023. During these times of uncertainty, I wanted to find a way to keep students and parents updated on news, policies, and general happenings in Wildcat Country and decided that a newsletter would be the perfect avenue to keep the lines of communication open. This week, the school MYP website was updated with new information that includes directions for the service component of the programme (that is a requirement for ALL 9TH AND 10TH GRADE students enrolled at Millbrook) and the 10th Grade MYP Personal Project.
10TH GRADE PERSONAL PROJECT UPDATE
All sophomores enrolled in English 10 this semester, were introduced to the MYP Personal Projects this week. As students and teachers review the requirements and components of the PP in class, it is also vital that students and parents discuss and reflect on what option of the personal project is best for your family this semester. Please note that students must make a decision on which option they will complete by Tuesday, September 8, and must submit a project proposal to their teachers by Friday, September 11. More information about the PP is located on the school MYP website http://millbrookmyp.weebly.com/.
Students enrolled in English for the Spring Semester will complete this project at this time.
9TH AND 10TH GRADE COMMUNITY SERVICE UPDATE
One of the major components of the IB programme and experience is its dedication to the service of others and the environment in our communities. In the past, students at MHS participated in the Community and Service Program where they were required to complete a set number of hours per year in order to satisfy the requirements of the MYP. This year, in order to better align the MYP to the Diploma Programme’s service experience, and to build authentic connections between what students learn in the classroom and what they encounter in the community, all 9th and 10th grade students will participate in Service as Action experiences. Students will need to complete a minimum of 4 learning experiences during the school year. More information about the Service as Action program, including all requirements, directions, and examples can be found on the school MYP website http://millbrookmyp.weebly.com/.
In closing, I would like to issue another welcome to the new school year here at Millbrook High School! If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Have a great rest of your week!
