A message from Mr. Rios, campus Principal
Stallion Community,
We had a great 9th week of Nearpod lessons with our scholars and we are ready to move into week 10 to finalize marking period 4. As you were made aware from last weeks memo, week 9 and 10 have been combined. For week 10, our teachers will be working on finalizing grades from Tuesday, May 26 to Wednesday, May 27th. All final grades are due on Wednesday, May 27th by noon. We want to thank our Stallion scholars, educators and our parents/guardians for your leadership and support. We are also laying out the foundation to our summer school plan. Below you will find updates about:

8th Grade Clearance & End Of Year Information
- A certificate of advancement will be provided to each 8th grade student. Certificates will be mailed out by our counselors the week of Tuesday, May 26 through Thursday, May 29.
- Top 10 8th grade students will receive a recognition certificate along with their advancement certificate. Top 10 will also be recognized in our Stallion weekly newsletter and on a Twitter post the week of May 26-29.
- Teachers have created flip grid videos for our 8th graders wishing them good luck on their academic journey to high school. A link to teacher videos is available on the Slider Middle School homepage. Please click on the following link to access the videos. https://www.sisd.net/williamdsliderms
- Only 8th grade students that have pending transactions will be called to clear. A scheduled appointment will be made and will include a date and a time. Clearance days for these identified students will be: Thursday, May 14, Thursday, May 21 and Thursday, May 28th from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM. Athletics and Fine Arts will be making calls to identified students and families this week to schedule an appointment and time. The building will not be open and families are encouraged to adhere to all CDC guidelines.
- All library fines have been waived and if a student has a book, they will return this book when school reopens. The only library books that will be picked up will be for students who are attending an out of District campus. Please email Mr. Rios at mrios11@sisd.net
- All cafeteria fines have been waived.
- No textbooks were issued to students as the campus has class sets.
- Yearbooks: Sponsor, Mrs. Julie Reyes will be scheduling pick up times for yearbooks that were purchased. Calls will be made to schedule a pick up time and date.

Summer School Learning Academy
Purpose of Remote Summer School Learning Academy:
The purpose of the Team SISD Remote Summer School Learning Academy is to provide SISD students with online instructional activities to help reinforce key concepts needed to ensure success in the upcoming school year.
Timeline:
- May 1st, 2020 to May 22, 2020-Identify Students
- May 26th-May 29th, 2020-Notify Parent
- June 1st-4th- Summer School Planning
- June 5th Meet My Summer School Teacher
- June 8th-June 19th-SISD Summer School Learning Academy
AM Session 9:00 to 12:00
Daily Schedule for Summer School Learning Academy:
- 1st Hour-Face to Face lesson with students through Microsoft TEAMS (I DO)
- 2nd Hour-Collaborative Practice (We DO)
- 3rd Hour-Nearpod Lesson (You DO)
Bridge Camps
- Algebra I with Ms. Sierra and Mr. Colorado (June 8th to June 19th AM sessions). To prepare all 8th grade students for upcoming Algebra I class.
- Synergi4 with Nessy Benavidez (On June 16th and June 17th from 9 am to 12 pm).
- AVID with Ms. Amato (On June 9th and June 10th from 9 am to 12 pm).
- SESLA Academy with Omar Varela (On June 1st to June 4th from 9 am to 12 pm)
Parents invited to fill out 2020-21 School Year Parent Survey
As SISD plans for the 2020-2021 school year, we are evaluating and working on possible scenarios for the reopening of schools due to the uncertainty of the pandemic. Although schools are scheduled to start on August 3, 2020, modifications to the differentiated learning models to address the long-term effects of COVID -19 are the focus of discussion.
SISD will use the information collected to maximize solutions that address our primary focus, which is student academic success in a safe and supportive learning environment. If parents are interested in participating in a focus group regarding the topics outlined in the survey, they can include their contact information at the bottom of these surveys. No other identifying information is collected.
