Highlands Holiday Card Contest
Encourage your student to submit art for the Highlands Holiday Card Contest. Submit either electronically to Misty Chybrzynski at mchybrzynski@goldenrams.com or send to the Administrative Center. Submission must be received by Nov. 21 at 4 PM.
Superintendent Dr. Bjalobok will select eight submissions to create the district's greeting cards that will be sent to communities groups and members, as well as to schools and other educational institutions across the state! Check www.goldenrams.com for guidelines.
Students Attend Music Festival
Eleven students from Highlands Middle School attended the Mucho Macho Music Festival at Trinity High School in Washington, PA. The festival is sponsored by the Southwest PA Region of the American Choral Directors Association and is designed support and showcase middle school and junior high male singers. The choir rehearsed with Dr. Mark Boyle of Seton Hill University and had the opportunity to sing with and see a performance by the members of the Westminster College Men's Chorus (including Highlands graduate Ben Grove).
Highlands students attending the festival were Jacob Taliana, James Vance, Brendan Kohnle, Domenik Hurley, Scott Polly, Ben Grove (Class of 2012), Jarrod Masarik, Chris Ratliff, Wes Deemer, Jake Arvay, Casey Quillen, and Chris Dombrowski. The Highlands Middle School Choral Director is Ms. Renee Shreffler.

GRANDVIEW READS THEIR HEARTS OUT!
Grandview Principal Heather Hauser invited the therapeutic reading dogs, local police and firemen, parents, teachers, community members and the Greater Allegheny Conference section champs the Golden Rams football Senior students to read with herself and her students at a huge reading event on Nov. 12 as part of National Young Readers Week. Principal Hauser read for the entire school day as part of the Book It! Principal Challenge. Check out all of our young readers in the photo gallery on www.goldenrams.com !
Known as the "Mountain Man", author and storyteller Robin Moore visited Highlands Middle School to share his expertise of Native American folklore, primitive life, and survival. Mr. Moore and a group of 8th graders also erected a 26 foot tipi in the Middle School gym! Mr. Moore is the author of The Bread Sister of Sinking Creek. The event was coordinated by Middle School librarian Dr. Sandra Reidmiller. Check out the photos of this event on www.goldenrams.com !
HOST FAMILIES NEEDED THIS SPRING
Host families will be needed in the Spring for AFS International Days. Contact Kathy Harenski at 724-226-3390 or kharenski@verizon.net if you are interested in hosting an AFS student from another district overnight.
Christmas on Corbet Street will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 5-7 PM along Corbet Street in Tarentum. The event features a bonfire, hot chocolate and sweets, basket raffles and live entertainment from Highlands Middle School Choirs and Andy Mangini. Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus. There will be a gift bag for the kids. Check out the Food vendors & Treats for sale.
Share the Warmth: Donate your gently used warm items or new items to warm those in need. Items can be dropped on the porch of 1126 Constitution Dr. in Tarentum. If you have a need for winter wear or have questions call Generations Pastor Nick Chybrzynski at 828-238-4272.
Positive Athletes: Don’t forget to send your POSITIVE ATHLETE nominee to Misty Chybrzynski at mchybrzynski@goldenrams.com. Indicate the athlete’s name, grade level, sport, and how they are being a positive athlete. Please also note the best way to contact you with questions.
Salvation Army Afterschool Clubs: Looking for a great afterschool program? Check out the Salvation Army Free Afterschool Clubs on Wednesdays. Transportation available by request. Contact Jared at 724-224-6310 ext. 2 to sign up! Activities offered include Open Gym from 3 – 5pm on Mondays; Kids Supper Club from 4:30 – 6:30pm on Wednesdays and Sunday School at 10 am followed by services through Noon.
