Updates to the SHS Student Handbook
As the students and processes here at SHS grow, we find it necessary to update our policies to reflect practices being used in the building. Please note the following updates to our policies for the 2022-2023 school year below. These items have been added to the current Student Handbook as an Appendix. Link to Student Handbook.
Online/AP Study Hall Expectations
Page 21 Closed Campus has been modified during online/AP Study Hall
Smithville High School has a closed campus which means we do not allow students to leave campus for lunch or without parent/guardian permission. We do allow students in online/AP study hall courses to leave campus with the following exceptions:
First-block and fourth-block students are NOT required to be on campus as long as they are on time for their second-block class or are not truant for their third-block class for any reason. Should they have 3+ tardies or truancies they will be required to be on campus and will be assigned to a specific location.
Second and third-block students may alson leave campus but MUST sign out and/or back in using the computers outside the front office. The same expectations are expected in regard to truancies for in-person classes.
Students will not be allowed to wander around the building and must be accounted for if they are on campus which is the purpose of the QR code. There are QR codes in the cafeteria and in the library depending on your chosen location.

Work Experience/Work Release
New Addition to Handbook
Work experience provides a student the opportunity to develop job skills and/or study a selected career path by participating in a workplace setting and performing the duties of that occupation. One half (.5) credit may be earned upon satisfactory completion of each semester of work experience. Students must complete 180 work hours to earn class credit. For verification of progress towards the 180-hour requirement, students must maintain work logs in Transeo OR submit pay stubs to the RWL Facilitator. If hours are logged in Transeo without supporting documentation, supervisor verification is required (usually via email).
