beginners/improvers workshop
Warwickshire UK July 6th and 7th 2023
2 Day Ecoprint Workshop
£320
Tutor: Caroline Nixon
Hours 9.30-4.30
A semi-private workshop, with a maximum of five students will ensure plenty of individual attention
This workshop is designed to teach you all the techniques you need to
produce clear and vivid prints from botanical materials on fabric.
This is a contemporary adaptation of the ancient tradition of dyeing cloth
with plant pigments. No dyes or inks are used, the colour comes directly from
the leaves themselves, which we will gather from my well stocked garden.
This course is suitable for absolute beginners but will also be entirely relevant
to those wishing to improve, especially those who are hoping to achieve
clearer prints, richer colours, and greater technical knowledge and understanding.
Day 1
Today we will be making samples, using a variety of different fabrics and
techniques. I will provide fabric samples, some of which will be mordanted ready for you. You will work with silk, wool and linen.
You will learn about mordants and mordant some fabric or a scarf, ready for day 2.
Day 2
You will spend the day putting your new skills to use, printing a silk scarf or a piece of fabric to sew at home.
We will also discuss how to source suitable fabrics including charity shop finds to upcycle.
You will learn what equipment you need to print inexpensively and safely at home.
What to bring:
You will be provided with a detailed list of what to bring. Silk scarves and fabric will be available to purchase, or you will be advised on suitable fabrics to source for yourself.
We will have a bring and share lunch, which usually turns out to be a real feast!
Tea, coffee, cold drinks and cookies will be provided
