Snow Make- up Days

School will be in session on both Tuesday, February 17th (previously a flex-day) and Friday May 29th to make up for the 2 snow days we have had so far.

Please keep in mind that we will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill is below 25. Make sure to send your child to school with an appropriate coat, gloves and hat for being outside 20-30 minutes everyday.

Second Semester

You may start to notice that your child's work is getting a little bit more difficult in the next couple of weeks. We are really focusing on answering in complete sentences and responding to our reading through our writing. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Thank you for all you do at home to support your child's education.

High 5 Behavior

We have been reviewing our classroom expectations since returning from break. With the unpredictable weather it has been very hard for the kids to get back into the “normal” school routine and remembering appropriate classroom behavior. Please help me to remind your child as they leave for school to stay focused when they are here. Thank you for your help and support in this! Spring is just around the corner!

Things we are collecting...

There are several items that we are always collecting at school. Feel free to send them in whenever you need to.

  • all plastic bottle caps and lids for our buddy bench project
  • Boxtops
  • Campbells Labels for Education

Coming up next week....

Reading -We will continue talking about identifying the main idea and supporting details in the stories we read. When reading at home ask your child about the main idea of the story.

Spelling - New spelling words were sent home Tuesday for the test on Friday, January 30th.

Our sight words for the next 2 weeks will be:

Writing - We will continue working on our fiction stories. These stories are taking us a little longer as we talk in the story about the characters problems and how to solve them so that the reader is not left wondering what happens. The children are really enjoying their writing as it is totally up to them how they create their story. :)

Math - We will continue working on those addition and subtraction skills, this time focusing on facts up to 20. We will be working on fact families and finding missing parts of both addition and subtraction sentences. It is still very important to be practicing those math facts at home.

Rocket Math: We started Rocket Math this past week. You will see sheets coming home that your child has completed in class. At the bottom your child's goal is written. This goal may be adjusted as we continue through this nine weeks. Feel free to copy the top 1/2 of the page and have your child practice. They are given 1 minute to complete their set goal.

Science - We will continue our first science topic about matter by exploring solids, liquds and gases.
