Bulldog Bulletin
Elementary School- February 1, 2024
Hello Honeoye Families!
Since our last newsletter, students have been hard at work in their classrooms, extracurriculars and in their efforts to be positive and focused. I continue to be proud of their accomplishments-both large and small-every day. My interactions with your amazing children is why I love Honeoye so much!
Our students have also been engaging exceptionally well with our monthly PBIS character trait activities. In January, we learned that COURAGE is the strength we use to do what scares us. February’s character trait of the month is HONESTY- and about the importance of building trust. Many of our PBIS character traits will be highlighted in this year's elementary play production.
On the evening of February 14th, all are welcome to join us for Character Matters III. In this play, students will discover ways to be more caring, thoughtful, courageous, and hard working…and to learn what it feels like to walk in someone else’s shoes. Prepare to be in for a fun and entertaining musical sure to get you moving and grooving in your seats! Hope to see you there!
As always, I thank you for your kindness, partnership and ongoing support. We couldn't do it without you.
Sincerely,
Natalie Pfluke
Student Wellness Day
Student wellness is extremely crucial, as it allows students to have better social integration, improved behavior, and increased resilience. When students are healthy mentally and physically, they tend to progress more in all other aspects of their lives. We are excited to be hosting a student wellness day on Friday, February 16.
Balanced Literacy
Literacy Coach, Alison Farrell, continues to work with teachers, digging deeper into best practices for Guided Reading including selecting goals, specific prompting language, record keeping, and goal analysis.
Winter benchmarks are being completed in both math and ELA and data meetings will occur the week of February 12th. These meetings provide the opportunity for grade level teachers to collaborate with coaches and academic intervention providers to review and analyze the data for each and every child to provide the most appropriate interventions for each child's specific needs.
Honeoye Elementary Welcomes the BOE
Welcome Class of 2037! Kindergarten Registration is Open...
If you have an incoming kindergartner, and you haven't already notified us, please begin the pre-registration process by filling out the Intent to Register Form. Once this process is complete, you will be added to our mailing list and in March, will receive a registration packet to begin the formal process. (Note: if your child currently attends our UPK program, no action is needed as they are already pre-registered.)
If you do not have an incoming kindergartner for the 2024-25 school year, please help us spread the word to your friends and neighbors in the HCS community that registration is open. HCS encourages families to register early for planning purposes (screenings, orientation, student placement, etc.)
*Important to note: In order to register your child, they must have been born on or before 12/1/2019.
Building Level Safety Meetings
As I state often, creating a safe and supportive learning environment is of the utmost importance here at HCS. We strive to make sure every student entering our building feels comfortable and safe every day. In the classroom, there are many ways in which we help our students develop skills they need to create positive peer relationships, some of which include:
- Zones of Regulation
- Second Step
- Digital Citizenship
- Restorative Practices
- Morning Meeting
- PBIS
- Too Good for Violence/Too Good for Drugs
- Safe Harbors
If at any time you feel your child might be experiencing negative peer interactions or if you have a concern about a social exchange, please don't hesitate to call me at any time. At no point should any of our students feel anything but safe walking through our doors. My door is always open!
Too Good for Drugs
Prevention Educator Nicole Drost, along with School Resource Officer Tyler Marlow, will be pushing into 5th grade classrooms to begin the Too Good for Drugs program (formerly known as DARE). The goal of TGFD is to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors related to alcohol, drugs, vaping, and smoking. The program will begin after February break and will run once a week, with lessons that focus on building positive friendships, decision making, communicating effectively, and resisting peer pressure and influence.
