AFSA K-12 Families,
A reminder that Friday, February 10th is an early release day. Students will be released after lunch.
On our early release day we have a couple of events for students to attend:
- The High School Leadership Conference is Friday, February 10th from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the high school. All 7th-12th graders are invited to attend this free event to help build leadership skills, meet others, play games, and more! See below for details.
- AFSA K-8 Literacy Night is Friday, February 10th at the K-8 building. See below for information on this event.
Thank you to everyone who attended the K-8 Winter Carnival! What an amazing turn out! A great time was had by all! A very special thank you to the parents and staff who helped set up and run this event! We appreciate your support of AFSA K-8!

High School Leadership Conference - 7th-12th Graders are Invited!
High School Leadership Conference
All students in 7th-12th grade are invited to attend the High School Leadership Conference! The high school leadership conference (HLC) is coming up Friday, February 10th from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the high school and is a free event! Students will build their leadership skills, take part in a service project, play games, meet State and Regional FFA Officers and more!
7th & 8th Graders:
ALL 7th & 8th MUST have a signed permission slip to attend this event. The permission slip is available at the front desk at the K-8 building and is also attached to this newsletter. Students in 7th & 8th grade who attend will be bused to the high school at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 10th. All students attending must have their own transportation home at 5:00 p.m. and are required to stay for the whole event.
9th-12th Graders:
Students in 9th-12th grade wishing to attend should sign up in the front office at the High School or email Ms. Leiding or Ms. Crowley. All students attending must have their own transportation home at 5:00 p.m. and are required to stay for the whole event. No additional permission slip is needed for 9th-12th graders.
The last day to sign up is Wednesday, February 8th at 3:00 p.m.

AFSA's GOT TALENT
AFSA's GOT TALENT is coming up Friday, February 24th at the High School! All 7th-12th graders are invited to show off their unique and amazing talents! All types of acts are welcome, it should be entertaining and school appropriate. Some past acts have included singing, dancing, dice stacking, juggling, musical instruments, comedy, etc.
7th and 8th Graders:
Students in 7th and 8th grade that wish to participate need to sign up for auditions by Tuesday, February 14. Sign up on the poster outside of the Ag/Art room at the K-8 building. Auditions will take place on Thursday, February 16th from 2-3 p.m. in the Ag/Art room.
All 7th and 8th graders will be attending the AFSA’s Got Talent Show at the High School on Friday, February 24th. Students will be bused to the high school at 1:15 p.m. to watch/participate in the talent show. The 7th & 8th graders will be dismissed from the high school at 3:00 p.m. Any questions contact Ms. Stumpner
9th - 12th Graders:
Students in 9th-12th grade that wish to participate need to sign up for auditions by Monday, February 6th. Sign up on the poster outside of room 132 at the High School. Auditions will take place Wednesday, February 8th and Thursday, February 9th during lunch/advisory in room 136. Any questions please contact Ms. Leiding or Ms. Crowley.
Literacy Night at the K-8 Building
*Students in 7th & 8th grade have the choice of attending one of the two events being held on Friday, February 10th - Literacy Night or the High School Leadership Conference. Please see High School Leadership Conference Information above for more information about the conference.
Attached to the newsletter are the permission slips for Literacy Night for K-6 and for Literacy Night or HLC for 7th & 8th grade. Please contact the front office at the K-8 building with any questions.
Science Fair Information - Grades 10-12
Our science fair for our 10-12 graders is coming up Thursday, February 16th. Family and friends are invited to join us to take a look at all of the awesome projects!

AFSA High School Days at the Capitol - Grades 9-12
AFSA K-12 Family Game Night at The Battleground Cafe
Join us for our next AFSA K-12 Family Game Night at The Battleground Cafe (2008 Co Rd E East, White Bear Lake) THIS Monday, February 6, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. There will be all sorts of gaming fun and giveaways!
This is a great opportunity to meet other AFSA families! We will have students and staff leading games and teaching games.
Girls on the Run - Sign Up and Volunteer Opportunities
Girls on the Run (grade 3-5) and Heart and Sole (grades 6-8) will be offered at the K-8 building this spring.
Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness and decision making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.
Practices will be on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:45 starting the week of March 27, and will conclude with a 5k on June 2. Girl registration will open February 1, with a random lottery until February 8. After that is it first come first serve for sign ups.
We are looking for students that would like to be a Junior Coach. This volunteer position is for high school girls aged 16-18 years old who want to grow their leadership skills. Paired with a Mentor Coach, Junior Coaches receive support to develop their own skills while serving as role models to program participants.

Culver's Fundraising Night
AFSA's Culver's Fundraising Night! Go out to eat and support AFSA K-12 at the same time! AFSA receives 10% of the food sales from 5-7 p.m. for each of the nights. This money goes to support AFSA clubs, sports and more! Join us at the Culver's in Little Canada (2880 Rice Street) from 5-7 p.m. on the following dates:

Agricultural Proficiency Awards and CDE's
Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers.
Proficiencies allow students to use their SAEs to compete against other students with similar SAEs in different areas. Students reflect and share what they learned from their experiences with others. The following students participated in the Region 4 interviews for proficiencies and will be sending their applications on to compete at the state competition in March!

- We are looking for substitute teachers for grades K-12, all subjects. Must hold or be eligible for an MN teaching license. On call as needed.
