Communities in Schools

While students are not physically in school, CIS remains dedicated to their well-being and continued learning. The CIS team is committed to doing everything in its power to support students and families and connect them to needed resources and services. During school closures, the CIS team is providing the following supports:

  • Virtual case management with students to provide connection, emotional support and needs assessment.
  • Providing referrals to available community resources, and helping families navigate the various basic needs, academic, health and other community systems of support available to them.
  • Providing emergency financial assistance for families impacted by COVID-19.

AVID

Our vertical team AVID Specialist, Anita Nuñez, and the AISD AVID team have developed and compiled resources for teachers to use for online learning. They are also hosting weekly chats with teachers to share ideas and stories. Barrington Elementary hosted a virtual learning professional development session for their teachers to practice collaborative strategies online!

EcoRise

EcoRise’s Sustainable Intelligence Curriculum has Personal Eco-Audits that students can do at home. This timeline can be modified as needed to adapt the lesson for an At-Home PBL. EcoRise Teachers have access to these resources at ecorise.org/teacher. New teachers can enroll at ecorise.org/enroll. Families can access the audits at ecorise.org/parent.
Big picture
Navigating the enormous amount of resources that are being shared right now in response to COVID-19 can be overwhelming. Our Northeast vertical team principals and NACER leadership team have curated smaller collections of information that we think you’ll find most helpful at this moment.

NACER

The idea to name our community collective NACER developed from an opportunity to brand ourselves with an acronym that defines our mission and also with a stand-alone word that embodies our mission. Read as the Spanish word nacer, the name serves as a nod to one of our primary communities’ native language while alluding to our goal of cradle to career pipelines.
