The Fault in Our Stars is a realist, young adult fiction novel. The story follows the main character, Hazel Grace Lancaster, as she battles cancer. Not only is she trying to live a normal life of a 16 year old girl, but she is also struggling with what will happen to her parents after she dies. While Hazel attends a church support group for cancer survivors on her mother's request, she meets a boy named Augustus Waters with only one real leg. The Fault in Our Stars is Hazel Grace Lancaster's journey through the fight against trying to live a normal life of a teenager and a cancer live.
"Damn near genius...The Fault in Our Stars is a love story, one of the most genuine and moving ones in recent American fiction, but it's also an existential tragedy of tremendous intelligence and courage and sadness."
