A Message From Our Principal
Announcements:
Watch Dogs
We have had an amazing turnout with our Watch Dog program so far! These Dads of Great Students, have volunteered their time in classrooms and have helped with car rider line, lunch, and recess. They will continue to be a valuable resource to our school and we appreciate everyone who has volunteered.
Car Rider Line
Please remember to pull all the way to the front of the car rider line during arrival and pick up times. Also, students should enter and exit the car closest to the curb for safety purposes. Students should not exit cars until 7:05 daily as a reminder.
Springfield Families,
We hope you all are having a wonderful year so far at SES. It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the halfway mark for this school year. With that in mind and knowing how fast the 2nd half of the year flies by, the PTA Board is wanting to plan ahead for next year. All 4 of the board members have already been on the board for 2 or more years and think it is best to give other parents a chance to lead the PTA. We are, however, all truly grateful for the experience and know our new leaders will be as well!
In order to make the transition as smooth and easy as possible, we are hoping to elect the future PTA board early so that we can help them learn the roles and teach them the tricks it took us 2+ years to figure out. Although we feel it is time to let others lead, we all plan to be active PTA members and except for Michelle, who will be leaving SES to go to SMS, we are all happy to help out as needed throughout the year. If you are interested in joining the PTA board, please email coltspta1@gmail.com. Feel free to reach out to any of the board members with questions.
Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Notes from the Nurse
February is National Dental Health Month!
Lifelong habits begin at home. Oral health goes hand in hand with your overall health. Make dental health part of your daily routine and share these reminders with your whole family:
ü Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, especially after breakfast and before bedtime. Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.
ü Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss. Older children should be ready to floss on their own.
ü Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones.
ü Visit a dentist regularly for a routine checkup and a cleaning.
ü Protect your teeth by wearing a mouth guard when playing sports.
ü Don’t forget to change your tooth brush regularly (every 3 months), and after an illness.
Sweet snack facts:
Eating a lot of snacks with sugar may cause cavities.
Every time you eat sugar, plaque in your mouth mixes with the sugar to make acid. The acid hurts the teeth and causes decay over time. This can be painful!
Book Fair
Please see below for hours.
2/20-21 Open only during media classes
2/24-28 Open 7:05 AM - 3 PM
2/25 Open 3:45 PM - 5:45 PM before STEAM/OSOB Night

Media Messages:
Did you that February is LOVE OF READING month?? Well what are you waiting for? Get READING!! So many great books, so little time! Thanks for all your support in helping your children remember to return their library books each week so they can check out new ones. We would love your continued support sending in old and new greeting cards! Kids love the bookmarks we make from them -- playing cards and postcards make great bookmarks too so really anything that we can cut up, we can use! Also still receiving starburst candy and new and used books collecting dust on your shelves. Thanks again and remember READING is at the HEART of it all!
Technology:
Fourth and Fifth graders will be using Scratch to create and code a character to show proper Digital Citizenship. Second and Third grade will be working on their presentation skills. First grade will be starting their first Google Draw activity as they use their Google Accounts and Google Classroom. Kindergarten has learned to log into Typing Agent and will practice the keyboard and make a class ABC Book in PowerPoint. When these activities are complete we will tackle Research on the Internet.
PE:
Did you know that your student can bring their own water bottle to PE? We do lots of fun fitness activities, and this is a great way to get your student in the habit of drinking plenty of water throughout their day! Make sure to ask your student what they are learning in PE, and as always, send them to school with tennis shoes and clothes that they can move easily in to help them have a fun, safe and active time in our class!
Music:
2/10- Chorus Performance of the National Anthem @ Winthrop Basketball Game (Tickets required for family only, not performers)
2/11- Chorus Performance of the National Anthem @ Charlotte Checkers Game (Tickets required for performers and family)
2/20- Kindergarten Performance @ 8:15AM (More information will be sent home by the classroom teachers)
