Welcome!
Here is an introduction to the eBooks offered by Searingtown Library. There are eBooks that are appropriate for every grade level. Remember - you will need your username and password to access the online eBooks. If you have any questions or would like to schedule time in the library or lab, please email me and/or sign up on the Library Google Calendar!
To access our online eBooks, go to the Virtual Library Database page. To access FollettShelf books, go to Destiny OPAC off the Searingtown School Homepage and login to your Destiny Account.
GRADES K-3
ABOUT PEBBLE GO
Pebble Go is appropriate for grades K-3 and anyone needing an easy introduction to any of the topics below. Clicking on each topic brings you to a page that breaks the topic down into specific topics. The text can be read by the student or the student can choose to have the text read to them. PEBBLE GO is not compatible with SOLO, however it does offer similar features to SOLO.

Pebble Go Options:
Students can have article read to them; read it independently; print the article; do an activity; create a citation. There are also very short videos included with each module.

INTERACTIVE FEATURES.
Books have 3 options to choose from.
As student reads book, they are prompted to fill in information for the activity on the computer.
For this activity, step 1 is to choose the genre of the book.
Step 2 is to tell what the book is about.
When all of the steps are complete, students may print out their writing or share (actually means to save it to the computer as a pdf file).
EPoint Books
EPoint Books
A set of 6 nonfiction books about animal habitats. Appropriate for grades 1-3. Does not have additional features such as read aloud. Not interactive.
BookFlix
BookFlix, from Scholastic, pairs a fiction and a nonfiction book. Appropriate for grades K-3.
Books are divided up under a general "genre" heading.
Clicking on a genre heading will take you to a book with tabs. Each tab has more book pairings on it.
The fiction book is shown as a video; the nonfiction book as a regular book with read-aloud (not a computer voice!)
After each set of books there are puzzlers which the kids love to do! Usually the puzzlers are on sequencing and vocabulary.
You can click on "Meet the Author" to find out info about the author.
Clicking on "Resources" gives you ideas for activities to do with your students.

Capstone Interactive Library
Each book is narrated by a real person. Options are to have words highlighted as book is read or have audio off; go to glossary, index. All Capstone Interactive books are multi-use - meaning you can have an entire class reading the book on individual computers!
Each book has a link for related websites and related books.
Each book has interest and reading levels and ability to check correlations to Common Core Standards.

NOOKBOOKS (ALL GRADES)
Follett ebooks (FolletShelf)
To Access FollettShelf
Go to DestinyQuest and click on FollettShelf (at top). In FollettShelf, login with your username and password; alternative is login in with the guest username and password from your librarian.
At the present time, we have 105 ebooks available through Follett! Books that have a GREEN ribbon are multiuser- meaning unlimited number of students can read the book at the same time.
FolletShelf Features:
Follett ebooks also give you the option to have the book read aloud. Students can also take notes using the "Add a Note" feature - it's like putting a sticky note on the page. Students can also highlight words or passages, which are saved to their notes. All of their notes are SAVED into their "Notebook" and can be printed out. Notes remain in their account until they delete them!
