Christmas Message to BES Staff
We would like to wish all of our BES staff a safe and happy Christmas and holiday season. We would like to acknowledge the contribution of staff, parents and students to BES in 2017. Walt Disney once said ‘You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful ideas in the world, but it requires people to make the dream a reality’. This is certainly the case as a principal or assistant principal. The reality is that the learning experiences and projects that have taken place this year could not have happened without a great deal of commitment and support from you all. This year, we completely revamped our master schedule to meet the needs of our students. The staff is to be applauded for the way in which they have embraced the challenges of changing the master schedule and implementing it with positivity and enthusiasm. We are privileged to be a part of a school with highly capable and committed teachers and support staff. One of the critical factors of any successful school is the staff. There has never been a time when being a teacher has been more demanding or challenging. To our teachers and support staff, thank-you for your energy, passion and enthusiasm.
May the Holiday Season ahead be peaceful and enjoyable! Before you go your various ways for the holidays, we want to sincerely thank each of you for the contribution you make to the success of Blytheville Elementary School and to the success of our learners. Together we are making a difference in the learning experiences and opportunities for each of our students.
Thank you again for all you do for the young people and their families that we serve, and enjoy this special time of the year!
Thanks for all that you do,
Mrs. Chanda Walker and Ms. Shayla Adelowo
STAFF CHRISTMAS PARTY
BES Morning Procedures
Arrival time for teachers and paraprofessionals is 7:40 a.m. Teachers and staff with duty assignments are expected to arrive early enough to take their duty station at the designated time. Morning duty starts at 7:30 unless you have been assigned an early duty, which starts at the time designated on duty schedule. Students should sit quietly in the hallway engaged in reading or math facts.
Duty Post/Supervision
Please be on time for your duty! It is imperative that all duty posts are
covered at the appropriate times. With all of our eyes and ears, we can deter students from rule-breaking. We should all be watching and encouraging positive behavior. Once you know you are going to be absent, you need to make arrangements for someone to cover your duty post. Although subs are used to cover classes, they are not always
as effective with duty. When possible, we need to use our own staff to cover duty.
Counseling
In an effort to improve school climate. it is important for classroom teachers to be present during Mrs. Davis' monthly counseling sessions. Please be mindful that this is not a break or planning time.
Don't Forget.... Keep your Grades Updated. HAC does not work if we do not keep current grades in the system.
Grading Policy
- Minimum of two grades will be taken and recorded every week for Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics
- Minimum of 2 grades every other week for Science and Social Studies
- Minimum of 1 grade per week for special area classes
- Homework grades will not be recorded in the grade book
- Grades must be published as they are updated in TAC
- Assignment names must be descriptive
Literacy: QC L.3.5 Figurative language, word relationships and nuances in word meanings
Math: 4.NF.2 Compare fractions
- SPED Grading
- Frequent communication with SPED teacher regarding student progress
Student Behavior Expectation Log Update
In an effort to address student discipline concerns, the way in which student behavior expectation logs are completed will be changing effective January 3, 2018.
Students will now be on a 7 day cycle from the first day in which they are written up. If a student is written up on a Tuesday that same expectation log will follow that student until the following Tuesday. There will no longer be an automatic reset each Monday .
- Every student will be on a weekly rotation depending on the start of their first minor behavior incident. These changes will allow less student predictability and a continuous flow of discipline throughout the week. Please be mindful that it must start over once the student has reached 7 consecutive days. If a student is written up on Tuesday step 1, then step 2 the following Monday, and step 3 on Tuesday, they will actually start over on Wednesday.
Do not send students to the referral room or leave them out in the hall.
