Infrared Waves
Learn everything about Infrared Waves here!
Infrared light lies between the visible and microwave portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Infrared light has a range of wavelengths, just like visible light has wavelengths that range from red light to violet. "Near infrared" light is closest in wavelength to visible light and "far infrared" is closer to the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The longer, far infrared wavelengths are about the size of a pin head and the shorter, near infrared ones are the size of cells, or are microscopic.
The wavelength for infrared waves is about 1 millimeter down to 750 nm. The frequency is 430 THz- 300 GHz. The speed in a vacuum is about 300,000,000 meters per second. Infrared waves are a big impact on human health. Infrared heat can cause many things, the major ones being heat stroke or high blood pressure. They are good for police or hunting, help see objects at night. Infrared is used in a lot of things in our everyday life. The sun uses infrared, so without infrared we would all be frozen right now. Another thing we use in every day life with infrared is our TV remotes work on infrared frequencies.
Infrared Waves
Scientists use infrared radiation for many purposes, including the study of celestial objects with infrared telescopes and the characterization of organic compounds with infrared. Night vision goggles and cameras find activity in the darkness by using infrared light found from warm objects. Some animals like pit vipers can detect warm-blooded prey by sensing the infrared light their prey emits. Although many animals can not.
In this article it talks about everything about infrared waves. This was the best article I found so far. It talks about the dangers, facts, uses, and the definition of the infrared waves. Another thing it talks about a lot is the lengths of the wavelength. Anywhere from long distance, mid distance, and very close to the beginning of the wavelength. A very interesting fact I found was infrared waves can be used for muscle relaxation and pain reliever.
