Bikes Donated to Burbank Students
What would I do if I had a bike? That’s the question third-grade students at Burbank Elementary School had to answer in a short essay. The students with the top two essays would earn a new bicycle from the YMCA. Well, that’s what the students thought. This past Monday, students gathered to learn who won a new bike, and Ms. Robinson, the school’s principal, happily read the two “winning” essays. But then, another bike was brought out for a third student. But before the students could celebrate their three classmates, Ms. Robinson and Mr. Rodrigez from the YMCA announced that all of the students would get a bike. The YMCA of Greater Long Beach provided the bikes through the Bikes for Kids program, which gives bikes to third-grade students at qualifying schools. Thank you to the YMCA and 3HCycling for making this bike giveaway so special for our students.
ABC Students Spread Holiday Cheer
Students helped bring the holidays across Southern California this past weekend. The Burbank Elementary Spirit Squad, student council, and ballerinas shared their holiday spirit at the Tree Lighting in the City of Artesia. The Artesia Pioneer Regiment marching band played loud for all to hear during the City of Baldwin Park’s Holiday Parade. The parade organizers recognized them for their performance with a 1st place trophy for marching bands, 2nd place for Color Guard, and 3rd place for Drum Major. Congratulations to all, and thank you for sharing your talents with the community.

Carmenta Students Make the Local News
Mr. Woodbury’s Model United Nations students at Carmenita decided they wanted to give back this holiday season, and he challenged them to turn that want into action. These driven students decided they would collect food donations to give out to those in need through the “CMS Grow Frees” canned food donation program. The students came up with the idea then organized every aspect of the program from collecting the food, setting up the donation event, to making sure the community heard about the event through marketing. They even reached out to local media. KNBC/Telemundo news picked up on the story and spent time on Tuesday afternoon talking with the students. The story was featured during that evening’s news. Congratulations, Cougars, for supporting your community! Click here to view the segment that was featured on Telemundo 52.
