Dear Noyes Families,
We have been at school for the past 58 school days! The fact that we are here is a testament to the efforts of students, staff, and families to adhere to the regulations and follow all the procedures. Thank you for all you have done to support us. It has made and continues to make all the difference. Speaking of following the rules…..
MA TRAVEL ORDER CLARIFICATION
We follow the MA Travel Order when it comes to families leaving Massachusetts and returning to in-person schooling. There was some confusion about this last week because CDC guidance was intermingled in our SPS document. We have updated our document and the new information about travel regulations is also always posted on our SPS website. We continue to strongly urge you not to travel out of state. However, if you do, we will follow the MA Travel Order and only allow students to return to school when these requirements are met. Also, the only constant thing this year is that everything changes rapidly. What is a “safe state” today is not tomorrow and vice versa. Just know that we follow the MA Travel Order.
FOOD PANTRY
We are participating in the Food Pantry Drive next week. We will collect items on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (December 16-18). Our district-wide collection last month yielded 133 banana boxes filled with items and helped the Sudbury Food Pantry assist over 100 families. Thank you so much for your generosity and support of this important program.
ATTESTATION FORM
We applaud all the families who have kept their children home, gotten COVID tests when symptoms warranted it, and consulted with Carol Bradford with any questions about attending school in person. Thank you for taking this responsibility so seriously. YOU are essential to helping us maintain in-person schooling during this pandemic. At the beginning of the year, you signed an Attestation Form agreeing to check your children for any symptoms every in-person school morning and sending your children in with a mask if they are symptom-free. Thank you for continuing to do a symptom-check for each child daily. Please also read Carol Bradford’s notice in this newsletter which includes the most current information about isolation and quarantine requirements.
FLU VACCINE REQUIREMENT
Don’t forget students must have a flu shot by December 31 in order to come to school in January. Verification for this is sent to Carol Bradford, our school nurse.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Best Wishes,
Annette Doyle
From The Desk Of Carol Bradford - School Nurse
Dear Families,
I hope you are staying well and practicing all the well known safety measures as we deal with increasing cases of COVID-19 in our state and community. As we have learned more about this virus, some of the isolation and quarantine guidance has shifted. Isolation for those who have been diagnosed with COVID continues to be for 10 days as long as there has been significant improvement in symptoms and no fever without the use of fever reducing medications. Quarantine guidelines have had a more dramatic adjustment. We still understand that the incubation period for COVID-19 is 14 days. However the data has shown that most cases have an incubation period of less than 10 days. The CDC has determined that the small risk of transmission beyond 10 days is outweighed by the increase in compliance with quarantine guidelines as well as with cooperation with contact tracing to identify close contacts.
There are now three possible quarantine options for people who have been identified as close contacts. The first two require strict compliance with quarantine as well as active monitoring of symptoms and the person must remain completely asymptomatic during the entire period. Anyone who develops symptoms or is unable to commit to active monitoring of symptoms must continue to follow the 14 day quarantine option.
Active Monitoring: the individual must actively monitor symptoms and take their temperature once daily. If even mild symptoms develop or the individual has a temperature of 100.0 F, they must immediately self-isolate, contact the public health authority overseeing their quarantine and get tested.
1. 7 days of strict quarantine, release on Day 8 IF:
- A test (either PCR or antigen) taken on Day 5 or later is negative AND
- The individual has not experienced any symptoms up to that point AND
- The individual conducts active monitoring through Day 14
2. 10 days of strict quarantine, release on Day 11 IF:
- The individual has not experienced any symptoms up to that point AND
- The individual conducts active monitoring through Day 14
- No test is necessary under this option
3. 14 days of strict quarantine, release on Day 15 IF:
- The individual has experienced ANY symptoms during the quarantine period EVEN if they have a negative COVID-19 test;
OR
- The individual indicates they are unwilling or unable to conduct active monitoring
I am happy to answer any questions you may have at any time, and will continue to provide you with updates as they become available.
Stay well,
Carol Bradford
Lead Nurse, SPS
Thanks Officer Al!
Please consider contributing to a VIDEO SLIDESHOW and MEMORY BOOK that will be given to Officer Hutchinson. It's easy! Snap a picture of your student/students/family holding a sign with a message for Officer Hutchinson. Images can be emailed to Dee Tupta at cdtupta@gmail.com. . If you prefer, you can send a short video (less than 20 seconds please) and send it along to Ms. Tupta. Please submit your photo or video by Friday, December 11.
Officer Hutchinson has meant a lot to the SPS community, giving children the knowledge and information they need when handling tricky situations. He is always a friendly face in the schools, outside at pick up/drop off, and reading stories with Quaran "Story" Time on the Sudbury Police Facebook Page. Officer Hutchinson has been a driving force behind Sudbury's participation in the Special Olympics and has taught the fifth-grade STARS program for years.
We ask that you and your children try to keep this a surprise!
FLU VACCINE DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 31
