Message from the Principal
Hello Gilpin Families,
Can you believe we are nearly one month into the 2022-2023 school year? It has been a very busy last few weeks, and we are very appreciative of your partnership with us. This upcoming Friday, September 30, marks the mid-way point in the first marking period. As such, it is the end of the interim period. Shortly thereafter, mid-marking period reports will go home for students in grades two through five as well as for students who have IEPs. We encourage all families to please take time to login to the PowerSchool Parent Portal, examine your child's interim report, and discuss with them how they are doing. It is also a valuable time to communicate with teachers about how you believe your child is doing. If you would like to schedule a conference, please contact your child's teacher.
Did you know that Gilpin Manor is an AVID elementary school? AVID stands for 'Advancement Via Individual Determination.' AVID is a system designed to help teachers include higher-level thinking, organization, note-taking, and study skills into learning experiences. The goal is to help students become their very best learners so they are better prepared for middle school, high school, and life beyond CCPS. You can learn more here: What is AVID? (scroll toward the bottom for AVID Elementary).
Please make sure you have completed the meal benefit application form for this school year. The federal regulations have changed, so we want to make sure all students continue to be supported for meals at school. The CCPS Food and Nutrition Department recently shared important information that can be found here: School Meals Update.
At Gilpin Manor, we strive to be a support system for our GMES students and families. If you are in need of assistance, have questions, or just need to check-in, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the school at 410-996-5040. Dr. Casbolt, our assistant principal, can also be reached at email@example.com. I hope you are safe and well!
And, as always, be kind to one another.
GMES is Seeking Volunteers and Mentors
Are you interested in volunteering at Gilpin Manor Elementary this school year? Would you be interested in serving as a mentor for a student? GMES is currently seeking kind, supportive adults to serve as role models and work with students as volunteers and mentors for the 2022-2023 school year. If you are interested, please fill out this Google Form: GMES Volunteer/Mentor Interest Form. Thank you!
GMES Needs Assessment
Gilpin Manor Elementary School is gathering data to determine the needs of the Gilpin Manor community. The goal of our Needs Assessment is to determine the current and the desired performance of our students here at Gilpin Manor and help our families with the services available in the community. This will assist us in working collaboratively with families to ensure each child achieves social, emotional, academic, and behavioral success.
Thank you in advance for your prompt response in completing the Needs Assessment. If you have any questions, you may contact Gilpin Manor Elementary School at 410-996-5040.

Once again this school year, we will operate two car loops to ensure the safety of students, families, and staff members. Students in grades Preschool, PreK, Kindergarten, and their siblings will use the smaller car loop at the front of the building. Students in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, will use the car loop on the library side of the building. The library side of the building will require parents/guardians to enter down by the public library entrance.
To use the Car Loops, families must complete a GMES Car Rider Loop Application Information Sheet. You may do this electronically here: Car Rider Loop Application.
Principal's Book of the Month
We are excited to continue our ‘Principal’s Book of the Month’ program at Gilpin Manor. Throughout the school year, Mr. Foskey will select a book that will be given to every GMES student. During the month, students are encouraged to read the book. Teachers may complete activities with the book in classrooms as well.
The ‘Principal’s Book of the Month’ program will help us continue to build our learning community. One book will give us a common experience to discuss with our entire school family. Our books might have gentle messages, celebrate a person or event, or give us ways to discuss our Gilpin values. These books are intended to highlight something special and bring joy to our lives. We hope you and your child will read our book of the month.
Arrival: 8:45-8:55 a.m. Dismissal: 3:30-3:45 p.m.
Attendance at school each and every day is very important. This make sure students have consistent access to teachers and learning experiences. We will share weekly attendance rates for each grade level and the whole school each week.
Check out this great resource about attendance at school: Absences Adds Up!
Our goal each week is for each grade level, and our school overall, to have 92% or greater attendance. Attendance rates for this week are posted below:
PS: 90.5% PK: 87.9% K: 91.0% 1st: 89.2%
2nd: 94.1% 3rd: 93.6% 4th: 94.1% 5th: 94.1%
Congratulations to 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade for surpassing our goal of 92%!
Gilpin Manor is very fortunate to be able to offer a free breakfast and lunch to every student. To access the meal menu, please see this link: Meal Menu.
