Week of 3/4/19
Principal Message
Being the last week before Spring Break I know we are all very happy to be at this point. There continues to be tremendous teaching and learning happening everyday at ARSA and teachers have stepped up to the challenge in BIG WAYS!!
As we enter this week (and beyond) I am asking everyone to own a very intentional focus. Some may have heard of this concept. When we all do this it will generate a campus wide synergy. This "ownership synergy" will take us through Spring Break and set us up for a powerful return on March 18th:
OWN YOUR 20 SQUARE FEET
Owning your 20 Square Feet is a mindset coupled with discipline action. Inside our 20 Square Feet each of us has control; outside each of us have impact. Inside our 20 Square Feet we choose how we will think, interact, and behave. As our ARSA Community we perform better when we all take OWNERSHIP of our own 20 Square Feet.
It is in each of us to own what we believe and how we behave. So, own it! We are an organization of many people first and how we collectively own our beliefs and behavior that generate positivity and productivity -
WE CREATE AN UNDENIABLE FORCE COMMITTED TO SERVING OUR COMMUNITY WITH EXCELLENCE

Week 2 of Instruction for 5th Six Weeks: 2 grades in gradebook as of 3/1
Reminders for the Week
- Feedback -Teachers, feedback will continue to happen in the moment as leadership is in classrooms observing (formal or informal). As you have feedback provided and you engage in real time adjustments, reflect on how the adjustment impacted instruction. Real time feedback allows for a shorter cycle between feedback, adjustments, and reflection.
- Thank you to those that have submitted their 2019-20 Intent survey (placed in boxes). Please ensure you submit yours by the Due date Monday 3/4- to Ms. Garcia.
- Positive Narration, high visibility, and consistent follow through is crucial during these last two six weeks. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work! ARSA Way - All Day (on time arrival, arrival and dismissal teamwork, H.A.L.L. during transition, 1st Good Instruction, scholars in class, on task)
- See Something. Say Something- if you think you see/hear something come to an administrator or the officers. We want to air on the side of caution, always.

Teacher Highlight
Ms. Macon:
The following are the main ways SEL show up in my instructional practices. African American history month was a really good time to enact these methods.
- Have students reflect on and discuss the different groups they belong to – their family, their school community, their neighborhood community, their country – and how membership in these different groups affects how they see the world. This particular one is excellent when we are discussing current events or anything political.
- Have students reflect on and discuss the different cultures represented in their community and similarities across groups. This is excellent when we are discussing culture.
- Use historical events to have students identify with a time they may have had the same feelings, how those feelings affected others, how they handled those situations, and ultimately the outcome of the story. This is an excellent tactic when making connections and self-reflecting.
Each of these are simple conversations that my classes look forward to having. I feel that it keeps them interested in learning and helps them to remember what they have learned. I hope this is the type of info that you were seeking.
