Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
December 21, 2017
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
The calendar year is rapidly ending and the holiday season seems to be in full swing. I am fairly confident both students and teachers are anticipating a few relaxing days off. Of note, this past week we saw the tremendous success of the toy drive to replace the stolen toys for Toys for Tots. As reported in the local media, over 9,000 items were collected in Callaway County and the Mexico School District. Kudos to our students and faculty sponsors for fulfilling this community need!
Last week, your Board of Education received the 2016-2017 Annual Audit from the District’s Audit Firm Gerding, Korte, and Chitwood. Mrs. Amy Watson, a partner in the firm, reported that the audit opinion is unmodified, meaning there were no problems and that this is the best audit you can get. Obviously, I am extremely pleased with the results which are a total team effort to ensure accurate district financial statements. Again this year the Board of Education was notified that the District is fully accredited pursuant to the Missouri School Improvement Program 5. Being accredited is based on district and building scores on the Annual Performance Report, APR. All buildings maintain or improved upon prior year status. Reports for each area are listed at https://goo.gl/wgMRCz
The 2018-2019 Calendar was also approved at the recent Board of Education meeting. The first student day will be Wednesday, August 15, 2018; winter break is December 24, 2018, through January 2, 2019; spring break is the week of March 25-29, 2019; and the last student attendance day is May 15, 2019. The 2018-2019 Calendar can be viewed and downloaded from the quick links section of the FPS website. https://goo.gl/9Vcb5J
District-wide, we have noted an increase in the misbehavior of students after they leave school or the bus stop. As a reminder, the School District’s duty to supervise ends once a student leaves the school grounds or school bus. At that point, parents/guardians are responsible for supervision and general student behavior.
I trust each of you will have a positive holiday season. The FPS staff will be ready to start the new semester with your student(s) Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
Best wishes for the holiday.
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
