Why was this teacher chosen for Teacher of the Month:
Sandi was chosen by her peers for many reasons. Not only is she always willing to help our HMS family in any way and in any area, but she also has a great rapport with her students. They enjoy coming to her class because she makes learning fun. Sandi did a tremendous job presenting our Restorative Practices training to our HMS staff before school started. Her dedication and her willingness to take on so much and always manage it with grace is appreciated by all. Sandi is committed and enthusiastic to her content, her grade level team, and all committee work and yet she still finds time to be a valued mentor to her team members.

Creating a personal learning journey
We know that children learn better—and faster—when teachers have a clear picture of what each student knows and what they are ready to learn next.
That’s why our assessments react to each student’s answers. In the testing world, this makes our tests “adaptive,” or personalized to measure the needs of every student.
- If your child answers a question correctly, the test follows up with a more challenging question.
- If your child answers incorrectly, the test follows up with an easier question.
Adaptive tests make it possible for teachers to pinpoint what each child needs in order to learn best. At NWEA™ we help teachers understand your student’s unique learning needs—because every student matters. https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/
Parent newsletter on the web
Parents,
You can now find previous newsletters on the HMS website. The link has been attached above.
At HMS, H stands for Honorable!
During arrival and dismissal times, students will report directly to their designated areas. In the hallway, students walk on the right and keep hands and objects to themselves. Students arrive to class on time. In the cafeteria, students use manners and keep hands and objects to themselves. In the restroom students honor the privacy of others and respect other student’s space.
Hughes Huskies always honor and respect themselves and others!
Art Contest
Trinity River Authority of Texas Annual Art Contest: Students in Burleson grades 1-8 are eligible to participate. This year’s theme is “Protect the Source” and entries must be submitted by Friday, Sept. 28 by 5 p.m. More information is available on the contest flyer or email questions to communications@trinityra.org.
Google Classroom Parent/Guardian Email
Google Classroom Parent/Guardian Email
Classes pushed by Lil Sis for teachers already have the parent/guardian of record added (if they had an email). What this means is that parents receive an email to opt in to receive updates on their child (daily or weekly) from the teachers’ Google Classrooms. Parents should NOT be added to Google Classrooms or given a code to join (which will not work with emails outside of the bisdmail.net domain anyway). Here is some helpful information on Guardian/Parent Emails from Classroom in case you get questions. https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6386354?hl=en
Spirit Shirts
Please find attached the link for our 18-19 HMS Spirit Shirts. This is a great way to get an HMS shirt and to help our school. Orders will be due on September 12th. This will be the final order placement for shirts.

Resources and Emails
To reduce the number of emails sent to campus email conferences, instructional resources and opportunities from the LT Department will be posted on our website at http://bisdlearntech.com. Teachers who would like to receive notification of new resources and opportunities can sign up for email updates on the front page of our site (in the footer). We will continue to send out our monthly newsletter via All-Staff. Please encourage your teachers to visit our site for resources, ideas, and opportunities to collaborate.
Pop Up PD
The LT Department will be popping up on campuses starting next week to offer focused help on Google Classroom, Drive, and Gmail for teachers. We will arrive for all teacher lunch times and set up a PD station to help any teachers who need it. Teachers needing more help will be assisted with entering a help ticket in IncidentIQ. We are basing the order and topic of our visits on current help ticket numbers and topics. So...if you smell popcorn...that’s us. Want to request a Pop Up PD for your staff on a specific topic? Just email Kim Estes.
