Harry's Background Info.
Harry S. Truman was born on May 8, 1884 in Lamar, Missouri. In 1890 he moved to Independence MI and grew up there, and also attended school there. He was the son of Martha Young Truman and cattle trader John Anderson Truman. He also had a sister named Mary Jane and John Vivian. When Harry turned nine he had to start wearing glasses, this kept him from playing his favorite sports.
The Polotics
When Harry turned into a man he sold clothing in Kansas City for two years. He failed. So Truman turned to politics. A man named Tom Pendergrast helped him out. With Pendergrast's help Truman was elected a Jackson County judge in 1922. Truman also ran for reelection but lost in 1924. He was broke but with all friends he pulled through until 1926. He was known as a honest politician.

Truman and World War ||
World War || hero
April 12, 1945, Vice President Truman was called to the White House. President Roosevelt had died suddenly. The law states he must be president. Two weeks after being the president, there was a top secret program. The Manhattan Project. The government was making a atomic bomb. Germany surrendered. Truman now faced the hardest decisions in the world. He would decide that weather to use the atomic bomb against Japan. It could destroy the city.
Truman World War || continued
He warned Japan, he hoped would cause Japan to surrender. Japan refused. We dropped the bomb over Hiroshima. Two thirds of the city was destroyed. His decision took thousands of lives. Finally the world war || was over.
Truman Goes home
From 1948 to 1952 the White House was under construction. So all his family lived in his Blair House. November 1, 1950, Truman survived an assassination. After that he said " You have to expect it when you are a president". In 1952 he decided he would not run for reelection. He retired. On December 26, 1972, Harry S. Truman died. We remember his leadership in World War ||.
He changed our world
He changed our world by putting the bomb in Hiroshima and making Japan surrender, if they did not surrender we would all be in trouble. His quotes inspired many people. Here are some
