Robbinsville's Quarterly Curriculum Newsletter

We Miss You!

Dear Robbinsville Families,

We miss you and your children and hope to see you again soon! The past few months have been a challenge for us all and we greatly appreciate your support during remote learning.

The purpose of this newsletter is to share information about our Summer Reading and Math Assignments. We know that our staff, students, and parents all need a well-deserved break, so please know that these summer assignments are designed with good intentions and to help combat what many in the field call the "summer slide." These are also not meant to be completed all at once or even right now! When there's a rainy day, when someone's bored, or as you read at night with your child, the summer assignments will be there. They are not designed to be onerous but to offer opportunities for students to keep their skills sharp. Please see below for information about summer assignments for grades 1-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

Thank you again for your continued support and have a wonderful summer!

Kimberly Tew, Ed.D.

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

Incoming Grades 1-5

New Summer Assignments

In previous years, elementary assignments were not mandatory. This year, because of the challenges of remote learning, we are asking all students to complete grade-appropriate assignments in both reading and mathematics. We hope that you find these activities engaging and as a vehicle to support your child's learning. Assignments can be found HERE. If needed, printed copies will also be available. Sharon School will share more information about how to pick-up your summer learning materials. Differentiated materials for IEP learners will be sent later in June.

Incoming Grades 6-8

ELA and Math Assignments

Our middle school ELA assignments are similar to last year and can be found HERE. Current year ELA teachers will explain expectations with students and share book recommendations. Math assignments will be posted on the same district summer assignments website by Tuesday, June 23rd. Differentiated materials will be provided for IEP learners.

Incoming Grades 9-12

One School, One Book and More

We continue our summer reading program with one themed "choice" book per grade level as well as one text which every student is expected to read. Our One School, One Book text for 2020 is For Everyone by Jason Reynolds. In September, students will participate in classroom discussions about this book and how it ties to achieving their own goals. Summer Reading and Math assignments can be found HERE; math will be posted by June 23rd. Differentiated materials will be provided for IEP learners. Summer Assignments for AP Courses will also be posted on the summer assignments website by June 23rd.

Community Partnerships

Robbinsville Library

We are grateful for our partnership with the Robbinsville Branch of the Mercer County Library System. Even though the library is closed, students can search for ebooks in their catalog and download them through Hoopla and elibraryNJ.

In addition, the Mercer County Library System is temporarily allowing online library card registrations. Robbinsville families can fill out a form on the library's website (https://mcl.org/online-registration) and a temporary barcode will be emailed to you. This will only allow you to access to online subscriptions until the library reopens and you complete the permanent card process. We highly recommend taking advantage of their elibrary until the branch reopens!

Barnes & Noble Virtual Book Fair-Monday, June 8th-Friday, June 12th

Due to social distancing guidelines, we are unable to host our annual Summer Reading Kick-off at the Hamilton Marketplace Barnes & Noble. Instead, Barnes & Noble has provided us with a virtual book fair from June 8th-12th. A portion of the proceeds benefits Robbinsville Public Schools. A separate communication with information on how to shop, virtual student performances, and special guest read-alouds will be sent out on June 8th.

Have a Wonderful Summer!
