Native Americans lived in the California area centuries ago and they practiced then and now many ancient ways of living. The shaman also passed on many stories from their relatives. Much later, the first Spanish explorers arrived and the most famous was Juan Cabrillo and then in 1574 English explorers came. Later, a man named Marshall discovered gold near Sacramento and that started the gold rush. In 1906 there was a huge earthquake and there have been many since then.
California is the third biggest state. It faces the Pacific Ocean. Steep cliffs line the coast. The state of California is mostly trees but it has several mountain ranges and a little bit of desert. Southern California is warm and dry and Northern California is cool and wet.
People in California surf and some people even went to Super Bowl 50. Their state football team is the San Fransisco 49ers. Their national basketball teams are the LA Chippers and the LA Jackers. Tlger Woods grew up in California. He dreamed of being a professional golfer then his dream came true. Now he is a professional golfer.
Did you know that Rhode Island can fit into California 137 times? Some of the Red Wood trees in California are more then 370 feet tall! The Golden Gate Bridge is in the western part of California. The lowest part of California is called Bad Water. The state tree is the Sequoiu. Southern California is warm all year. California's state bird is the Quil and from Southern California to Northern California is 900 miles. The state fish is the Golden Trout and the state flower is the Golden Poppy. Also, the state insect is the Dog Face Butterfly. The state animal is the Grizzley Bear. California has many great facts!
