The Hungate Echo

Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term 1 - Issue 4

A word from Mr Broom.

This short week has been a 'heads down and focus' one for our children preparing to take their SATs in Y6. I must say, they are doing absolutely fabulous and it's a real pleasure to see how they've matured and progressed so far this year.

Meanwhile, at the other end of school, our Year 2 children have been taking their SATs tests with Mrs Butterfield and the team in KS1. We keep it very low key so as not to raise any unnecessary pressure on any of our children. I, like many other school leaders, am not a fan of testing!

Our celebration assembly today was lead extremely well by some of our Year 5 children as they prepare to move into Year 6 sooner than we realise!

It seems that what we are doing at Sherburn Hungate now is having a positive impact on the local community and especially prospective parents. I've taken 8 sets of parents around our wonderful school this week, all keen for their children to start in the coming months.

Finally, our attendance is certainly something to celebrate. This week we were yet again well above the national average and long may this continue.

School Uniform & Snack Reminder

We seem to have a small number of children who are coming to school in brightly coloured trainers. These are not part of the school uniform policy. Children should wear plain black shoes.

We like to encourage our children to have a healthy break time snack and we provide this through school. However, it seems that some children are bringing snacks into school containing sweets/chocolate. These are not permitted.

SATs Dates

The Key Stage 2 testing period for our Year 6 children will be week commencing Monday 14th May, Key Stage 1 testing for our Year 2 children takes place throughout May, and Phonics screening for our Year 1 children (and some Year 2 children) takes place week commencing 11 June. If you have a child in Year 2 or Year 6, please make sure you don't book any term time holidays during this period. It's really important to them and us that they are in school to take the SATs assessments. Thank you.

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 5 & Year 6 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%!

Our average attendance this week is a whopping 98.3%. A tremendous achievement.

We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.

Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
