Hybrid Update
We are entering our final days of preparations for the return to in-person learning! Much is prepared already and we are working on putting together all of the smaller details. Our kindergarten students will be the first to return. We can't wait to see you!
During Hybrid learning, our school day will be 8:00-1:30 Monday through Thursday and 8:00-11:00 on Fridays. Students will attend school in-person on their assigned cohort days with alternating Fridays.
If you are unsure which cohort your student will be attending, please contact your student's teacher or call the school office at (503) 673-7750. In the In-person Learning/Hybrid day, students at school will engage in learning activities with their teachers and their cohort, eat lunch at school (except on Fridays), and will have breaks outside.
Professional Development Days - Feburary 19, 22-23
CDL Professional Development Days - February 19, 22-23
The District has set aside 3 Professional Days to support K-12 teachers and staff in the transition from Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) to the Hybrid Model. These days will include time for teachers and staff to:
- Participate in 3 trainings on safety protocols including COVID-19 training (aligned to OSHA requirements); each school’s procedures outlined in their Operational Blueprint; and walk-throughs of the facility to solidify the new routines with access, flow and adjusted learning spaces.
- Set up classrooms to prepare for students’ return.
- Plan with grade level and department colleagues on the implementation of the Hybrid model including changes with the instructional model, classroom routines and procedures.
These days will be non-school days for students in Comprehensive Distance Learning as teachers and staff need to focus time and attention completely on the safety trainings and the successful transition to the Hybrid Model. The dates of these non-school days will differ for each grade level and have been highlighted below. These changes to instruction do not apply to students in the WLWV K12 Online Program:
PRIMARY SCHOOLS: February 19, February 22, February 23
MIDDLE SCHOOLS: February 24, February 26, March 5
HIGH SCHOOLS: March 3, March 5, March 12
Medication Drop Off - From our School Nurses
As we prepare to return to In-person learning in the coming days, we wanted to remind you of our policies about medications at school.
As always, per our school district medication policy, any medications brought to school must be something that is necessary for your student to take to remain in school for the day. Any medications must be in original containers with current prescription labels. It must be checked in to the office per the parent/guardian and the appropriate district medication forms filled out. Students may be allowed to self-administer inhalers as approved by parent and school nurse with appropriate prescriptions and district self-carry forms on file. Spacers for inhalers will be especially important to have and use this year to insure the full dose of medication is received.
What is different this Covid-19 year is that any students experiencing symptoms that may be indicative of Covid-19 (ie headache, coughing, sore throat, congestion, stomach ache that does not resolve in a short time, etc) will be sent home.
Thank you for your vigilance in screening your students at home prior to sending them to school and for your patience and understanding of our procedures as we continue to navigate this unusual school year.
We look forward to welcoming your students back to the buildings!

Daily Screening Process for In-Person Learning
When we return to in-person learning, all students will need to participate in a daily 3-Step screening process to help protect the health of everyone in our school community. The first step in this process begins at home. Be sure to view the video below to learn about this important daily process.
Face Coverings
The Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance published by the Oregon Department of Education and The Oregon Health Authority states face coverings are required for all students in grades kindergarten and up. Face coverings will be worn all day both inside and outside. Here is additional information about selecting and wearing a face covering safely. Certain accommodations can be made for students with documented medical needs or a disability. Please reach out to your child’s case manager, the school counselor or the Student Services Department (503-673-7098) if you need to discuss an accommodation based on a documented medical need or disability.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
As with all things this year, arrival and dismissal, will look different from previous school years. In keeping with Oregon Health Authority guidelines we have reorganized our arrival and dismissal procedures. We have made the below videos to help explain the new procedures. We ask that you review and share this information with your child and family members that will be transporting or walking with your child to and from school.
A key change to our arrival and dismissal procedures is all students will enter their classroom from the outside doors of their classrooms, versus walking through the hallways and porches. In following OHA guidelines we are asking anyone accompanying students to school in a car, remain in their car when they drop off their child. Or if walking with a child, we are asking you say goodbye to your child on the softball side of the school property. A cross walk attendant will be there to safely guide your child across the street where further staff will guide your child to the color coded paths that lead to the outside classroom doors.
Following these procedures minimizes the number of people on school property, allows for us to be following OHA guidelines of maintaining 6 feet of distance, as well as allowing for students to clearly see the color coded paths we have designed. We will have several staff members available to help guide your student safely to the back door of their teacher's class room.
We appreciate everyone's flexibility and patience as these new procedures are learned. The safety of your student, in conjunction with meeting the Oregon Health Authority guidelines, are our highest priority.
10 Things You Can Do To Prepare For Returning Back To School
Please have conversations with your child about returning to school and how it will be both exciting and different from past school experiences. While we will be providing families with more tips and details for this, some simple ways to get started now can be:
- Have your child practice wearing a face mask for increasing lengths of time and while playing outside.
- Ensure your child has several face masks that they find comfortable and that fit well
- Practice washing hands thoroughly and independently
- Help young students build independence with things such as zipping coats and pants, tying shoes, opening lunch bags and containers.
- Point out social distance markings in public places and how to follow them.
These simple practices done well will help ensure the safety of our school community when we return. Use this as a tool or reference to begin your work at home. You can start setting your child up for success with these helpful ideas today.
Change in Meal Program
Because we are returning to in-person/hybrid learning, our school buses will now be needed to transport students and therefore home delivery of meals will no longer be possible.
There will be no more meal delivery to homes starting Feb. 22. Instead, families can pick up a full week’s worth of meals at one time every Tuesday or Friday. Hot lunch will be provided to students during their in-person learning days. The last day of meal delivery to households will be Friday, Feb. 19.
Meal Pick Up For Students in CDL and the WLWV K12 Online Program

- Meals are free for all children age 18 and younger who reside in the district boundary regardless of school attendance.
