HAPPY NEW YEAR! WELCOME 2020!
Chamberlin School Girls on the Run Team Needs Coaches!
What is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run is an after school, spring program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. Our team will explore themes like healthy relationships, positive self-talk and managing emotions through fun and interactive lessons. Physical activity is woven into each session as a way for girls to experience goal setting and achievement. The season culminates with the Girls on the Run 5k, a celebratory event that reinforces that big things are possible when you keep moving forward!
What is the volunteer commitment as a Coach?
The season is 10 weeks and kicks off mid-March. Teams meet twice weekly, after school (Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:45 - 4:15), for 90 minutes per session. Coaches may be female or male and definitely do NOT have to identify as runners! Coach teams are a combination of guardians, teachers, school staff and community member volunteers. GOTRVT provides comprehensive coach training, a curriculum that maps out each session, all team supplies and support throughout the season.
How do I learn more?
Contact Jessica Green, GOTRVT’s Northern Program Coordinator, at 802-871-5664 or Jessica@Girlsontherunvermont.org. Visit www.gotrvt.org for more info or to register as a Coach!
I am one of the coaches so if you would like to talk with me also please feel free to connect. I would ideally love to have 2-3 people even if you can't commit to being there everyday! Sharon Davis, Chamberlin School Clinician sdavis@sbschools.net 652-7466
Physical Education Bulletin Board
Hello Chamberlin Families,
I am looking for your help! I would like a photo of your kid/kids before, during or after participating in a physical activity. I am also looking for photos of kids making healthy choices (drinking water, eating vegetables, brushing teeth etc). Once you email me the photo (dbahrenburg@sbschools.net), I will print it out, and put it up on the bulletin board by the gym. All of our teachers have been asked to participate as well! I love coming up with ways to support a healthy lifestyle, but I'll need your help. Thanks for participating during this busy time of year!

Community Dinner at Chamberlin School - January 10th
Community Dialogue Event Focuses on How to Start the Conversation about Race with Children
Kerry Fantelli and Keith Smith of UVM’s Center for Health and Well-Being will co-facilitate learning and dialogue addressing how to start the conversation about race with children on Thursday, January 23, 5:30-7:00 p.m., F.H. Tuttle Middle School Cafeteria and Library (500 Dorset Street).
This event is part of the South Burlington Community Series on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. In its fourth year, the series intends to offer the community an opportunity to come together and engage in thoughtful, intentional dialogue on topics often difficult to discuss. This evening is especially designed for the parents/guardians/caretakers of the community’s youngest learners, recognizing that “at birth, babies look equally at faces of all races. At 3 months, babies look more at faces that match the race of their caregivers (Kelly et al. 2005)” (“They’re Not Too Young to Talk about Race,” The Children’s School).
A free dinner will be offered at the January 23 event from 5:30-6:00 p.m., and the presentation will run from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and will include resources for families to bring home. Free childcare is also available. Please call 802.652.7035 to register for childcare and/or the event.
This event is sponsored by South Burlington School District’s Healthy Schools Program. For further information, please contact Susie Merrick at smerrick@sbschools.net or 802.652.7035.
