6th Grade ELA
January is the time for DRAMA! We will cover the basic terms and elements of a play. We will begin reading "The Prince and the Pauper" this week in literature circles, and make writing connections between the play and film version. Vocabulary will be a major focus through this unit. All students have signed up for Google Classroom. "Quizlets" will be available in Google Classroom, so that students have an entertaining way to study their terms.
7th Grade ELA
In Reading, we will begin the play "The Monsters are due on Maple Street". We will be identifying the elements of drama within the play. We will be discussing the impact of peer pressure when confronted with an important decision. We will be doing hands on activities in order for them to grasp these concepts. In Writing, we will continue our focus on writing Expository Essays and addressing major grammar concepts. Students will be taking a Writing Benchmark on Wednesday, January 25th.
8th Grade ELA
In 8th grade Reading, we will be focusing on Drama for the next 3 weeks. We will be reading, discussing and analyzing the play form of "The Diary of Anne Frank" in our Literature Circles. Please know that we will be activating our background knowledge by discussing the history of the Holocaust. In 8th grade Writing, we will be trying our own hand as a Playwright and creating our own Script based on a specific theme!
Garza's ELA
In our 8th grade reading class we have begun our Drama Unit. We will be reading "The Diary of Anne Frank" drama. Through this piece we will study the history of the Holocaust and World War II, as we learn the elements of drama and review reading comprehension skills.
In our Reading Labs, we will take a close look at the building blocks of language and discover new tools for decoding language and building comprehension.
