Raising Blended Learners
A Raise Your Hand Texas Initiative
"student-centered, competency-based, personalized learning"
"Schools are confronting a design problem. Educators are tasked with helping young learners become college-and-career-ready for the 21st century, but have inherited a classroom model built to prepare the previous generation mainly for factory work in the 20th century. They are told to close the achievement gap, but students who enter their doors represent an increasing diverse mix with a wide range of learning issues and complicated individual needs.
"Blended learning has emerged as the engine to power student-centered learning...It also frees up teachers to become learning designers, mentors, facilitators, tutors, evaluators, and counselors to reach each student in ways never before possible."
"The purpose of this project is to showcase strategies for using blended learning to improve student achievement across diverse student demographics and geographic regions in the state."
Designing the Student Experience
Let's begin by viewing a short video clip with Brian Greenburg and Michael B. Horn, and then learn the key elements of the student experience.

What is Blended Learning?
The definition of blended learning is a formal education program in which a student learns:
at least in part through online learning, with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace;
at least in part in a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home;
- and the modalities along each student’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience.
