The Weekly Roar
September 3, 2018
WELCOME BACK!
I hope this letter finds you all rested after our first week back!
We got off to a great ROAR last week. (Please ask your children why we roar.) The beginning of the year can be very hectic, but you should be very proud of your children! They hung in there and we got it done with very little hiccups. I am very excited for this school year, and I can't wait to inspire and be inspired!
Our week coming up at a glance:
*****Your students were all given the spelling and reading vocabulary words last week on Friday, August 31st. The words will always come out the week before.*****

- Reading Assessment: Wednesday, September 5, 2018
- We will be working on story structure, plot, characters and conflict.
- We will be working on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will be learning how to choral read. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together, out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become.
- Reading Vocabulary Words: characters, foreshadows, incidents, rise, roles, conflict
- Vocabulary Quiz: Friday, September 7, 2018
- Your child should read nightly for 20 minutes and then get their reading log initialed.
Social Studies:
- We will be looking at maps, and we will be learning how to use latitude and longitude. We will also be looking at physical features of the United States.
