Cedar Grove Friday Flash
November 1, 2019
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
It's been another busy week at Cedar Grove. On Tuesday, we successfully completed a side-door bus evacuation drill. Your children were great listeners and followed drivers' directions quickly as they practiced this important procedure. While we hope they will never have a situation where it is necessary to implement an evacuation, they are prepared if they do. Special thanks to our 5th grade patrols who did an outstanding job of assisting the drivers and students.
We also held our Student Government (SGA) elections this week. There was an impressive field of candidates, and their speeches and posters showed both creativity and a desire to contribute to the overall school community. Students in grades 2-5 cast their votes on Thursday and have selected as their 2019-2020 SGA Officers:
President: Dillan Mogot
Vice President: Delaney Whitney
Secretary: Sedric Su
Treasurer: Addy Liu
Thank you to all our candidates and to Mr. Oedemann, our SGA sponsor, for coordinating the election and providing a great opportunity for all students to learn about the democratic process. We're looking forward to working with our student leaders to improve our school.
We ended the week with our Fall Class Parties on Friday, and the kids all had a great time celebrating with their classmates and teachers. Many thanks to our room parents and all others who helped plan and run the parties for creating such fun events and activities that will become cherished memories.
Parent/Teacher conferences will soon take place on November 11 and 12. These conferences are a great vehicle to strengthen the home/school partnership through two-way communication about academic progress and work habits as well as personal and social growth. However, time for conferences is limited, and we encourage parents to review our conference tips to maximize this opportunity to work together for the benefit of our children, If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please work with your child's teacher to schedule it.
Have a wonderful weekend!

From the Choral Corner! 🎶
Our 4th and 5th grade Chorus has been working extremely hard since the beginning of the year learning proper breath support, diction, and singing in tune through various breathing techniques, tongue twisters, and vocal exploration. Additionally, they have been practicing diligently in learning six choral songs with intricate harmonies, melodies, and instrument parts. They are sounding beautiful already! I'm so very proud of their progress!
We are very excited for our first performance of the year! The Winter Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 10, and include our 4th and 5th grade Chorus, Advanced Orchestra and Advanced Band. Students will perform an in-school assembly that day, followed by the evening concert at Clarksburg High School at 7:00 p.m. Please be sure students arrive to the concert in the requested concert attire - white dress shirt and black pants/skirt, with dark shoes. Do not hesitate to contact me should you need any assistance finding appropriate concert attire. We can't wait to see you at our Winter Concert on Tuesday, December 10!
Take Note: Shortly after the new year, the Cedar Grove 4th and 5th grade Chorus is performing at our Cluster Concert at Hallie Wells MS along with Wilson Wims ES and Snowden Farms ES choirs. This performance will be held on Wednesday, January 8, at Hallie Wells Middle School
