Although it may seem the school year just started, we are starting the process of high school scheduling with our 8th Grade students. Several weeks ago, the 8th Graders were introduced to the programs available at the North Montco Technical Career Center through a recorded presentation (https://bit.ly/3pAZtp3).
Parents/guardians and students are welcome to attend a virtual open house for North Montco on Thursday, February 4 at 5:30 pm (Registration: https://bit.ly/2YgjncO).
Eighth graders also heard about the scheduling process from a high school counselor this week, including how to choose electives and what high school is like. If you have an 8th Grader, please visit this link to view a video created to help during the course selection process. There will be much more about high school scheduling over the next couple of weeks, so keep an eye on this space!
Next week we are celebrating National School Counseling Week with the theme “School Counselors: All in for All Students” to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. The week highlights the impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
School counselors actively engage in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; work in partnership with parents/guardians as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world; focus on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, postsecondary and social/emotional development; and work with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves. As part of our celebration of National School Counseling Week, Arcola school counselors will post a daily inspirational video for students to watch.
To further our students’ career education, Arcola will be hosting a virtual STEAM (Career) Day this year on March 30. If you would like to a record a short video about your career to share with students that day, please contact Mr. Mueller in the Counseling Office at mmueller@methacton.org.
Finally, attached to this newsletter is the February issue of Middle Years, a newsletter focused on helping you improve your student’s success in school. We hope you enjoy reading it!
