Update from Christina Cagle
As you know by now, one of our BCMS family members, Eric Cagle, was in a serious accident last week. His wife Christina and I wanted to share more details with you so we could continue to support them and keep them in your thoughts and prayers. The picture above is Eric with his daughter the day of the crash.
From Christina (on the morning of the accident): Eric and his daughter Zoey were in his F-150 truck coming over a hill. The sun totally blocked his vision and he couldn't see the garbage truck in the lane ahead that was stopped, thus hitting the truck. Zoey had a small bump on her head and had seat belt burns but was discharged the same day. Eric had cuts on his head and was stitched up. He also has some neck pain (they say muscular pain) but apparently no other injuries - thank God. Will know more later - but feeling blessed and thankful given the circumstances- thank u for all the love! Don't know what the rest of our day will be like yet, he is still in the emergency section of the hospital here- fixing up what's underneath that beautiful head of hair.
Update from the next doctor visit: Eric suffered severe whiplash, cuts to his head and a major concussion which has slowed his recovery and slurred/slowed his speech. Thanks for all the thoughts and support, he wants to get back ASAP but as of right now that isn't in the cards. He misses everyone!
Latest Update: He suffered a severe concussion and the symptoms of that are still present, including slurred speech and headaches. He will not be allowed to get back to work until he is symptom free (without meds)...Monday he will get the staples in his head out. Until then, it is doctors orders to sleep 13+ hours per day to allow the brain to heal on its own - which all indications so far suggest it will do just that. Knowing that what could have happened didn't...#blessed .
Eric is quite self sufficient, but we do have black out sheets on the house and he must wear dark sunglasses constantly to block out the light. What we could really use right now are ready made meals. Eric is the cook in our family, not me:) so any help in this area would be much appreciated.
He feels like although he ran into a truck, he still has his sense of humor :) and wants to get back to normal- he even "read" Ava a book this week. He may be sore, but as Eric said "You can't hurt steel."
You guys have been so great! Thank you so much for al of you thoughts and prayers!

Thanks for an Amazing Homecoming Week 2017
Getting a Substute
We have worked as a district to improve our substitute teacher availability by adding to the number of days that each person can sub each month, and raising the pay options for them. Here are a few things you can do to help out in this area. First and foremost "own" your absence. If you are going to be gone, you are responsible for getting the necessary paperwork done and finding a substitute. Make sure your FAVE Five is updated to reflect your first 5 choices. If you are looking for someone to contact, please connect with Courtney as she has phone numbers for each sub.
As a reminder, sick days are broken down into quarters:
1-2 periods is 1/4 day (.25)
3-4 periods is a 1/2 day (.50)
5-6 periods is 3/4 day (.75)
7-8 periods is a whole day
Personal Days are broken down into halves:
1-4 periods is a 1/2 day (.50)
5-8 periods is a whole day
Subbing during your prep
30 minutes and over = Full Hour pay
29 minutes or less = 0.5 Hour pay
Please make sure you put your absence into AESOP if you are gone for anything, including after school activities. If you have someone covering in-house, please select no sub required, and in the notes to administrator put who is covering for you. If you are filling out a time sheet for covering someone, please put who you covered, and the time you covered them. Also include your Employee Number on the form, which is found in Skyward.
Finally, just a reminder that whenever you leave the building during working hours whether it is 5 min or 5 hours early, make sure you sign out on the Staff Sign-out Sheet. As stated in the faculty handbook, the workday goes from 8:10 am - 3:45 pm with a 25 minutes per day which can be flex scheduled.
