Meadowbrook News
September 3, 2021
From Mrs. Sawatzky
Good afternoon Meadowbook,
WOW - what a wonderful (and exhausting) week! Although there were challenges like busing and reorienting students to the cafeteria, the joy and excitement that comes with having students back in school makes it all worthwhile. Thank you for sharing your children with us.
Drop Off Reminders:
- Parents, please stay in your car.
- It is safest to have students exit the passenger side of the car.
- If you need to assist your child, please park your car in a parking spot and walk to the door. In Lot L, you can use the spots along the playground.
- Please leave the left lane near the Boy Scout building open for Early Childhood families. This is especially important from 9:00am to 9:15 am.
Pick Up Reminders:
- Please pull your car ahead until you reach a stopped car.
- All students report to their pick up location at 4:00pm, if they haven't been called earlier. At 4:00pm, the parking lot staff shift from collecting student names to assisting students in finding their car as they pull through the line.
I wish you and your family a relaxing holiday weekend. Remember, no school on Monday, September 6 in honor of Labor Day.
In partnership,
Natalie
P.S. Also, remember that Thursday is a Late Start day and school will start at 11:30am!
Hopkins Online Royal Academy
The Open Enrollment period for the Online Royal Academy (ORA) has closed. Families wishing to pursue an in district transfer to the ORA may still do so using the in-district transfer request process. That process can be found here. Please follow the drop-down directions titled: We live in the District but want our child to attend a school other than their assigned school (In-District Transfer). ORA will accept and process transfers as space permits. For help with the In-District transfer process, please contact Deb Pauly at Deborah.Pauly@hopkinsschools.org.

Community Engagement Events
We welcome you to join our Hopkins Public Schools Community Engagement events in late September and early October. We value your thinking to help us answer important questions to help guide Hopkins toward Vision2031 - questions such as learning start times for older and younger students, a year-round elementary school, locations for 6th and 9th grade learning, and creating flexible, hybrid models that become permanent features of our learning system. The next step in this process is gathering input from you!
Please calendar the following dates and watch for more details as these dates draw near!
- Monday, Sept. 27, 4:00-5:30pm
- Wednesday, Sept 29, 6:30-8:00pm
- Monday, Oct. 4, 4:00-5:30pm
- Thursday, Oct 7, 6:30-8:00
Bus Transportation
Busing information for your students can be found in the Parent Portal. If you need a Parent Portal account, you can request one here.
Transportation is responsible for getting students to and from school safely each day. This includes coordinating bus routes throughout the district, teaching bus safety to students, and registering students for school bus service. The fastest way to communicate with transportation is to send an email to schoolbus@hopkinsschools.org. Any changes to a bus stop requires completing a bus stop change request form. We are adding the "hopkinsbusstopfinder" for families to locate bus stop locations for our scholars in real time. More information will be shared in the near future.
Masks required in all Hopkins Schools
Masks are currently required in all Hopkins Schools regardless of vaccination status. You can find more information about our school safety plan on our COVID Hub located on our school’s website. Please remember to have your child complete a daily health screening before attending school.
Additional Vaccination Information
Free Vaccine Clinic at the Hopkins Activity Center!
ICA Food Shelf has partnered with ResourceWest, Hennepin County and Black Nurses Rock to offer a free COVID19 vaccine clinic on Friday, September 10. You can find additional information here.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is safe and easy. Everyone in your family 12 years old or older is eligible for vaccination. Anyone may sign up with the State by using the Vaccine Connector online or over the phone at 833-431-2053. Translations are available in Spanish, Hmong, and Somali. You may also sign up with the County by registering here: COVID-19 Registration Form. Many healthcare providers and retailers with pharmacies also now provide vaccinations. They include Cub Food, Hy-Vee, Thrifty White Pharmacy, and Walmart / Sam’s Club.
The state has expanded its vaccination services by offering vaccinations at the state fairgrounds. For more information, please see this MDH website.

From Kids & Company
Important COVID restrictions
In effort to limit visitors in the building and keep everyone safe and healthy we will not be having Kids & Company parents enter the building to start the year.
Drop off and Pick up Times
When you arrive at Meadowbrook in the morning please text or call our OST phone. Our staff will meet you at Door A and will help students locate their rooms. In the afternoon please text or call no more than 10 minutes ahead of your planned arrival time and we will make every effort to have students by door A and ready for pick up. Please be patient during pick up as some students must travel a long way to reach door A. If your child is coming from our 4-6 rooms, you may need to find a parking spot until they arrive so we can maintain a steady flow of traffic.
The OST phone number is: 952-451-5052.
