Doing so will allow the District to repair and restore our facilities, bring full-day kindergarten to all elementary schools, update schools libraries and some learning spaces, and ensure feeder patterns from elementary to junior high and high school providing all student access to a neighborhood or near neighborhood school. Jane Addams Honors Veterans

On November 11th at 8:30 am, the students and staff at Jane Addams will honor our Veterans with our annual flag raising, tribute, and Pledge of Allegiance.

Each year, we decorate a Veteran's Day Heart as a symbol of our caring and remembrance. The theme for Veterans Day 2022 is Honor. Honor reflects the military value and tradition of answering the call to duty.

Please consider having your student honor a vet while writing on this heart and returning it to Jane Addams. We send letters each year to a group of Veterans as they travel aboard Honor Flight. The letters are provided as a special surprise to honor a veteran on this flight to DC as he reads his mail call. These letters can be pictures or simply words of thanks to the vet.

Mail call letters will be delivered to the veterans that speak to our 6th grade students at Jane Addams on November 4th. We will provide these letters to those that coordinate the Honor Flight as well as to veterans who speak to the 6th grade students.

Jane Addams Spelling Bee

Each year District 15 students in grades 4-8 at our schools participate in Spelling Bees. Winners progress to their school bees and the winner from each building participates in the District 15 Annual Spelling Bee. This year’s District Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., at Walter R. Sundling Jr High's Auditorium (student registration at 6:30 p.m.).

The Scripps National Spelling Bee organization incorporates both spelling and vocabulary components in their competition. At District 15 we also have vocabulary rounds at the School and District levels of competition. Rounds 5, 10 and 15 will be vocabulary rounds. In those rounds, students will be given a word and two choices of the definition. Students who respond with the correct definition will continue on in the Bee.

Jane Addams Spelling Bee will be held in the classrooms and at the Building Level for classroom winners prior to winter break. More information to come.

How to Study for a Spelling Bee,

Jane Addams Structured for Independence Program ~ Welcome to SPARK

  • SPARK meetings are designed to give parents information to help them in their current and future steps of the journey of parenting children with unique needs. As parents, we guide and make decisions for our children and their development. The task can be overwhelming and we want nothing more than to be as informed as we can be when we set the course we believe our child should take. The SPARK committee and District 15 are grateful to have you and desire to serve you such that your journey is successful!

At SPARK we realize the importance of providing:

    • Relevant programs and resources related to special education
    • Opportunities to network, receive support and help
    • Connections for parents with outside sources

The above are primarily accomplished at the district level through evening programs with outside speakers. We have SPARK representatives at each school who are a local contact and resource to the individual schools. We also have an online support group. If you would like to subscribe to this group, send a request to

SPARK will be meeting monthly on Mondays from 7-8:30 pm for the 2022-23 school year. Please download our flyer (or see below) for the meeting dates and topics. Our meetings will take place virtually. Please join our Facebook group referenced above for the most up-to-date information on meeting locations, virtual links, and other changes.

If you would like to be contacted by or connected with SPARK, contact Orenza Jaske at

SPARK is a Northwest Suburban Council of PTA/PTSA committee serving families of children with special needs in Community Consolidated School District 15 and beyond. SPARK is proud to be in partnership with PTA!
