Boys Basketball: Bandera vs. Canyon Lake – February 21st
The Bulldogs took on Canyon Lake at Boerne Champion High School, where the winner would claim the 4th and final playoff spot in District 28-4A. The teams split their first two meetings in district against each other, so this final meeting of the season was going to be nothing short of a good game.
In the 1st quarter both teams went basket for basket as the Bulldogs took a 2-point lead heading into the 2nd, 13-11. In the 2nd period, the offense picked up for both teams as the Bulldogs scored 20 points in the quarter, led by Kyle Corbin’s 8 and Liam Demarchi’s 6, taking a 33-28 lead into the half. The 3rd quarter, once again, proved to be a problem for the Bulldogs on offense, as they were outscored 17-10 by Canyon Lake, who took a lead by as many as 8 points at one point in the quarter. The Bulldogs offense picked up in the 4th quarter and their defense was outstanding, holding Canyon Lake to only 8 points total, along with making a huge defensive stand in the final seconds to close out the game by a final score of 56-53.
“Before the season began, I laid out my expectations for this team and the goals we were going to accomplish. One of those goals was to compete in district and make the playoffs. We accomplished those goals in our victory over Canyon Lake, and I am so proud of the way my guys competed all season long. They never gave up. We believed in each other and achieved success,” said Coach Lee.
Box Score: Kyle Corbin 22, Liam Demarchi 16, Gunnar Winkler 8, Trace Decker 6, Tyler Moore 4
Next up: The Bulldogs will travel to Johnson City High School on Tuesday, February 25th, to take on Liberty Hill in the first round of the UIL playoffs. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Liberty Hill is the champion of their district and will be moving up to 5A next year.
