The life to death of Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi's childhood

Ghandi was Born on October 2nd, 1869. He was born in north-west India. His father was the chief minister of Porbandar and his mother was very religous and spent most of her time in the temple. His mother taught him ethics, to not to be violent, and to live a simple lifestyle. At age 13 he marries a local girl named Kasturba, who is 14. He was a very rebellious teenager who drunk and did lots of un-ethical things. Yet at the same time he worked on self-improvement. He and his wife had a child soon after his father's death but the baby died soon after he was born.

Gandhi was very learned and talented in school. His elders said that by going to school in another country he would become an outcast to his caste. he decided againsed it and studied law at an Inner Temple in London in 1888.

The father of India

In 1893 Gandhi lost his first case and gets fired from his job. He is forced to travel to South Africa to another post. Even though he has first class tickets he is forced to move to the back of the bus because of his skin color. After he arrives in South Africa, he starts to fight for civil rights. He creates a non-violent civil protest called satyagraha and an idea of "self purification". In 1914 he leads 2,221 slaves from a province on the east coast of South Africa to a founding province of the Union of South Africa in 1910 as an act of public disobedience. After that he is sentenced to 9 years in prison but the strike spreads and Britain is forced to release Gandhi. After that, he returns to India in 1915 with intention of freeing Indians from the British and destroying the caste system. When he returned, he was surprised to see how much poverty had come over the land so he helps people until he calls for a day of protesting againsed the Rowlatt Act. 400 people got killed and 1,300 got injured. After that Gandhi is convinced to start campaigning for Indian rights. He encourages no contact with the British or their goods which leads him to 2 years in jail. In 1942 Gandhi wants the British to "quit India for good" which results in imprisonment. His wife dies in jail in 1944. In 1947, Brittan finally negotiates with Gandhi for the independence of India. Although he meant for India to be 'united', they split into Pakistan and India which triggered thousands of killings and around 1,000,000 people leave India. In all of this tragedy, Gandhi leaves to fast in hope that things will settle down.

The death of Gandhi

In 1948, Gandhi travels to India's capital, Delhi to help natives and begins to fast for Muslim rights. On the way to a prayer house called the Birla House, he was shot 3 times in the chest by a Hindu extremist. Still, 67 years later, people still admire and look up to him, as they once did and always will.
