Flexible Classrooms: Providing the Learning Environment That Kids Need
It All Began With Kayla Delzer
My challenge to teachers is always, “If it’s right for kids, it’s right.”
"If we take a look at classrooms over the past 70 years, we are seeing the same type of learning environments, year after year. The world is changing, yet our classrooms are remaining much the same. Revitalizing space is a straightforward way to let students exercise choice in the learning environment and find academic success on their own terms."

What Does The Research Say?
"Brain research also confirms that physical activity-moving, stretching, and walking-can actually enhance the learning process...The brain learns best and retains most when the organism is actively involved in physical activity." (Eric Jensen, 2000)
"Simple in-class activities can boost performance. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially." (Matthew T. Mahar)
What Are The Benefits of Flexible Seating?
"The need to redesign our students’ learning environments is not simply an idea from the latest Pinterest board; it’s one of necessity. "
How I Got Started?
Tips and Tricks
"Outside the windows of our classroom is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices. How can we expect our students to solve problems and make choices independently if we constantly solve their problems and make their choices for them? Our classroom environments should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This simply cannot be done when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day."
