CHS Family Update
4 - 28 - 2020
In The Know
Attendance Expectations - Students are expected to attend each of their classes each week by checking in on Google Classroom and submitting assignments online. Students will be considered 'present' if they have checked in one or more times over the course of the same week (having at least one two-way contact with his or her teacher).
Locker Cleanout Communication to Families - Personal items from your school lockers will be available to pick up next week. Items from general school lockers can be claimed Monday through Wednesday, and items from gym lockers will be available on Thursday and Friday.
Custodians are cleaning out lockers this week. Lockers with padlocks will have the padlock cut off and removed in order to clean out the locker. Personal items will be put into bags and labeled with your locker number for you to pick up next week. Textbooks and library books will be returned to the library.
School Lockers - Students who use a school locker can come to the school or send a family member to pick up their personal items at the following times. Please bring your student ID card. Families with students in more than one grade level should choose one pickup time that works best for their schedule.
9th Grade: Monday, April 27, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
10th Grade: Monday, April 27, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
11th Grade: Tuesday, April 28, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
12th Grade: Tuesday, April 28, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Any student who is unable to come to the school during the time designated for their grade level may come on Wednesday, April 29th between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Gym Lockers - Personal items from gym lockers may be picked up on Thursday and Friday, April 30 and May 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
If you use a gym locker, please complete this Gym Locker Cleanout form or call 541-790-5100 and leave a message with your student’s name, gym locker number, and if there is a padlock on your gym locker.

Senior Attendance
Over the next few days, we will be entering a "leave date" for all seniors who have received a "P" for their classes and no longer need to engage in coursework. This will remove Seniors from attendance for these classes.
1) Seniors with a "P" will be removed from the class in Synergy but will not be removed from Google Classroom automatically.
2) Seniors who need to complete coursework to meet graduation requirements will be marked as absent on Friday if they have not engaged with the teacher during the week.
3) Any senior marked absent for a course will receive an autodialer on Friday afternoon regarding their attendance.
4) If you are a senior in a College Now (CN) course and are taking the course for CN credit, please notify your teacher as soon as possible so you can remain in the Synergy class and Gradebook.
5) For students who have already received a "P" and are engaged in coursework out of choice, you will be removed from Synergy but can remain in the Google Class for instructional and engagement purposes. Some teachers have Google Classroom automatically synced to Synergy, if you are removed from a Google Class but do not want to be please email your teacher to be re-added.
6) All seniors must remain in Advisory to be able to access senior and school-wide information. You are not required to participate in the weekly assignments.

Be the (Porch) Light- Honoring the Class of 2020
Our community’s care for our students burns bright. We're participating in the nationwide Be the Light Campaign to honor our seniors in the Class of 2020.
Join in: Each Friday through June 12, turn on your front porch lights or other lights at 8:20 PM (20:20 in 24-hour time) for 20 minutes and 20 seconds, to shine some light for our high school seniors. We too will turn on our athletic stadium “front porch lights." For the safety of our community, please don’t gather at the school. If anyone drives to see the lights at Churchill H.S., please stay in your car.
Take a picture in front of your lit-up porch and share it with us on social media or via our website—let’s celebrate our seniors together! 4j.lane.edu/4JBetterTogether #4JBetterTogether
Senior Celebration Signs 4J will provide signs for seniors’ lawns and windows
As one more way to recognize our senior class of 2020, our school district is creating yard signs and will provide one free to every 12th grade student for their lawn, front door or window. The signs and other celebrations are intended to honor our high school seniors and all they’ve achieved throughout nearly 13 years of K–12 education. The signs are expected to be ready by early May. They will be free to families, one per senior. We will share information soon about when and how each student can get their sign. In the meantime, digital images are available for families to share their pride on social media.
Thank you and congratulations, seniors! You make us proud! #4JBetterTogether
The school district also will turn on our “front porch lights” at athletic stadiums at each of 4J’s high schools. For the safety of our community, please don’t gather at school sites. If anyone drives to see the lights at a school, please stay in your car.
Take a picture of your lit-up porch, with or without a high school senior, and share it with us on social media or via our website—let’s celebrate our seniors together!
FREE ONLINE ARTS EDUCATION TOOL
With the news that schools will be closed through summer, Lane Arts Council and ArtSpark realized this means many students will miss artist residency learning opportunities this year.
This inspired the creation of ArtSpark Online.
Weekly, beginning April 27th, we will be publishing four-part video tutorials walking viewers through accessible art making experiences ranging from puppetry to natural dyes to observational drawing.
Links to all videos will be easily accessible through the Lane Arts Council ArtSpark Online website. All videos will be uploaded to Vimeo to make it easy for teachers to download and share. When possible, we will also provide printable instructional guides to support accessible learning for those students without internet access.

Looking Forward
Kudos
Kym Ramsing - Thank you for your work on capturing attendance as we figure out this distance learning thing. It's overwhelming and you are maintaining clarity in the turbulent moment. Thank you for your focus.
Sarah Woods - Deserves a huge kudo for all her work with coordinating and organizing Specially Designed Instruction for our students receiving special services. Your commitment to students and your enthusiasm for helping the team is contagious and true Churchill spirit. Thank you Sarah.
Students teachers - Lilly Loftin and Liane Davis have both been learning by doing in grand style. Student teaching is a tough endeavor and to weather the experience in quarantine is saying something in and of itself. You are trailblazers in this new arena. Thank you for all of your hard work. It is appreciated and we are proud to have you be a part of our family.
