April is also National Poetry Month!
April is National Poetry Month! National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, poetry has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and, of course, poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives. Learn more about poetry by visiting PoetryFoundation.org. Here's a great article about blackout poetry - a simple and beautiful artform.
Canon Future Authors Program
The Canon Future Authors Program is a free writing program, offered in partnership with Canon Solutions America, targets middle and high school students who are interested in becoming published authors. It is designed to inspire students who have a passion for writing and provides students with insight into the process of writing, editing, and publishing books through instruction by certified teachers and insight from local published authors.
The 7-day summer workshop will run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm daily from June 22-24 (Tuesday - Thursday) & June 28-July 1st (Monday - Thursday). All aspects of the workshop will be held virtually via the Google Meet platform. Space is limited, with only 50 seats/openings available. Student participants will also attend an unveiling ceremony in the fall of 2021, where they will see their published book for the first time and participate in a book signing event.
Click HERE for a flyer and here for the Application Form and Teacher Recommendation Form. The application deadline is Monday, April 26. Accepted students will be notified via email on or before Friday, May 28, 2021. Please direct questions to Tara.Smith@palmbeachschools.org.
