Work Hard, Play Hard but WORK COMES FIRST!
From Ms. Linsley
We are getting ready to start our testing season. All 3rd graders will take the IREAD-3 during the week of March 8th. I will be sending 3rd grade parents resources to better understand what types of items are on the IREAD-3 test. As I've mentioned the past few weeks, the most important thing you can do for your child is to make sure they are reading at home every day.
Most of our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the ILEARN assessment. The window for ILEARN is April 19-May 14. A few of our students are taking Indiana's Alternate Measuring assessment, (I AM) and that window is April 5-May 14.
I visit all of our classrooms regularly and am proud of how much progress our students are making. The assessments will measure how our students are performing on state standards. I do not want these assessments to cause stress for our parents, teachers, and most importantly our students. We are all doing our best, every day, and that is all that members.
I wish you could be here at Jerry Ross to see what I see every day. It is pure learning magic.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child's educational journey. Have a wonderful weekend. Ms. Linsley
Textbook Rental
On March 1, 2021 any unpaid textbook rental fees from the 2019-2020 school year will be turned over for collection processing. These fees normally would have been sent on March 1, 2020. This was delayed due to the public health emergency. It is necessary for us to collect unpaid textbook fees. If you qualified for free or reduced lunch for the 2020-2021 school year, this does not retroactively apply to unpaid textbook rental fees from the 2019-2020 school year. Any questions should be directed to Karie Lukas, Jerry Ross Treasurer at Klukas@cps.k12.in.us
From Mrs. Maynor
Hello Parents!
This week we are going to dive into a very common diagnosis…ADHD. Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have behavior problems that are so frequent and severe that they interfere with their ability to live normal lives.
Not all children with ADHD have all the symptoms.
- Inattentive only (formerly known as attention-deficit disorder [ADD])—Children with this form of ADHD are not overly active. Because they do not disrupt the classroom or other activities, their symptoms may not be noticed. Among girls with ADHD, this form is more common.
- Hyperactive/impulsive—Children with this type of ADHD show both hyperactive and impulsive behavior, but they can pay attention. They are the least common group and are frequently younger.
- Combined inattentive/hyperactive/impulsive—Children with this type of ADHD show a number of symptoms in all 3 dimensions. It is the type that most people think of when they think of ADHD.
If your child has shown symptoms of ADHD on a regular basis for more than 6 months, discuss this with your pediatrician.
Realize, it is normal for all children to show some ADHD symptoms from time to time. Your child may be reacting to stress at school or home, bored, or just going through a difficult stage of life. It does not mean he or she has ADHD.
Please feel free to contact us if you believe your child is struggling and may need additional support! We are a TEAM!

From Mrs. Pape
Hello Jerry Ross Families
I am excited to share this information for all of our students, families, and staff regarding this year’s St. Baldrick’s event. This year’s St. Baldrick’s event will be held Virtually on April 14th 2021 through online streaming at Crown Point High School. I am the Jerry Ross team captain and Mrs. Tillger is our co-captain and also our licensed Cosmetologist. We need student and staff volunteers to shave their heads here at Jerry Ross for our team on April 14th, which will help raise money to fund research helping kids survive cancer. I have attached the link to sign up to be a shavee for Jerry Ross team or to make a donation to St. Baldrick’s under our team name, we need your help! Let’s make this a great fundraiser for such an important cause. Thank you in advance. More details to follow as the event gets closer.
Have a healthy and safe weekend !
